Overview
Structural Steel Fabrication Shop in Tampa is looking for a Quality Assurance Manager, overseeing shop fabrication and field erection. This includes AISC and ASME/API work. Products include DOT bridges, RR, moveable bridges, buildings, miscellaneous steel, pressure vessels, large steel tanks, piping, ductwork, stacks, hoppers and heavy plate weldments.
Previous Steel QC experience is required
Description
The Quality Assurance Manager’s role is to develop, establish, and enforce quality assurance standards and measures for the fabrication and erection services within the organization. Overseeing the quality control department this individual will direct research and development in support of business projects, proposed projects, and quality requirements. The QA Manager will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help support fabrication processes through careful analysis in order to maximize the benefit of fabrication/welding practices.

Strategy & Planning
Lead the development, establishment, and enforcement of quality assurance measures and testing standards for new applications, processes, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the process.
Ensure that quality measures comply with regulatory standards, industry standards, and accepted best practices.
Create methodologies and processes for the collection and analysis of data for ensuring welding processes efficiencies and product fabrication quality/erection are achieved and maintained.
Review new projects prior to implementation to fabrication process to ensure QC is aware of all requirements and all processes are ready.
Assist with client inspections and third party inspectors to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
Explore and develop welding/fabrication processes, practices, and guidelines for new and existing technologies.
Develop and write test plans and audits for tracking defects and fixes in product fabrication, welding processes as well as ensure compliance with internal QA manuals and clients projects requirements
Develop and write quality control manuals and operations systems.
A specific example is the need for a field QA manual in line with API requirements that makes a more impressive image for customers. This manual is often requested as a bid document.
Apply established metrics to determine the readiness, quality, and operability of processes and equipment
Create and communicate test, audit plans, manuals and guidelines that will determine optimal QA performance according to specifications; revise as needed, keeping all documents a living document not stale.
Conduct internal audits to measure and assure adherence to established QA standards for fabrication, erection and welding processes, and corresponding documentation requirements.
Coordinate testing of new equipment to ensure integration into company fabrication and quality systems to ensure functional requirements, system compliance, and technical specifications.
Communicate test progress, test results, and other relevant information to project managers and executive management.
Manage all members of the quality control team, and ensure that quality project requirements are met and maintained.
Train, coach, and mentor QC staff and other junior staff members.
Plan and conduct performance appraisals of QC staff, administer disciplinary action, raises, bonuses, and promotions when necessary.
Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of quality assurance best practices.
