Description
This position is responsible for the overall effectiveness of the company’s health, safety, and environmental programs. Must have working knowledge of federal, state, and local health and safety, and environmental regulations for manufacturing facilities. Must also be familiar with all OSHA regulations, safety equipment and practices, and manufacturing procedures and equipment. A successful candidate will have experience in the electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing industries, with environmental and DOT compliance knowledge.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist Facility Safety Manager in executing the Health and Safety Plan according to policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, while striving to achieve “best/better practices” and incorporating Lessons Learned.
- Inspect facility and workstations, evaluate practices, procedures to access risk and adherence to guidelines according to daily/weekly/monthly compliance requirements. Assist Facility HSE Manager in conducting monthly audits.
- Train employees on health and safety matters for the facility and production specific activities, injury prevention, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for handling chemicals, equipment, and other safety related items such as hearing conservation, respiratory protection, hazardous communication, and emergency action programs, in addition to incident prevention. Conduct safety orientations and task specific training for workers before they begin working in the facility or prior to changing tasks.
- Conduct safety-huddles prior to the start of each shift to include stretch-n-flex program.
- Assist operations in maintaining the facility’s chemical storage, universal and hazardous waste containment, SPCC plans, SDSs, and participate in platforms such as BIM or Procore, be adept in working with different forms of technology and applications.
- Ability to work well with facility teams including management, vendors, and trade partners to encourage participating in Stretch-n-Flex programs, safety committees, inspections, safety huddles, purchasing required safety equipment, and production/assembly set up. Driving continuous improvement of facility safety.
- Assist in incident and near miss investigations to identify root cause and corrective action recommendations to upper management concerning safety and health issues that may affect the facility and the company.
Professional Requirements
- In process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred; will consider candidates with CHST/CSHO, CSP, ASP, GSP, STS or SSH and additional professional certifications.
- 5-10 years of relevant work experience with progressive responsibilities in Safety
- OSHA 30 Hour, First Aid & CPR, and Train the Trainer certifications
- Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) or (English/French) depending on location
- Working knowledge and experience of DOT standards, managing return to work/alternative duty programs, mitigating ergonomic risk factors preferred

Use their hands, talk in front of groups, hear in varying environments, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close visions, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, computer monitors, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This position is generally 25% office, 40% production floor, and 35% training in nature, and may require standing and walking for up to 50% of the time, as well as up to 25% travel. The work environment is generally favorable but may encounter adverse weather conditions while visiting projects. When work is performed within an office environment, standard office equipment will be provided.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the facilities and in specific task environment can be loud.
