Job Description
- The Fabrication Manager, Teaching and Learning serves an important role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment within the Science and Engineering Complex at the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
- The ideal candidate demonstrates a passion for instructing and working with students; training, coaching, mentoring and sharing their knowledge and expertise in machining; and ensuring a safe fabrication shop environment.
- This position interacts with students, researchers, staff, faculty, and external vendors.
- The ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and at all levels is essential for success. Instructs students (undergraduate and graduate) and post docs on various machine shop and fabrication techniques. Delivers extended Shop training 1-on-1 and in small groups.
- Collaborates and consults with faculty, staff, and students on research projects, student projects and other shop related activities.
- Oversees machining/fabrication activities in the Design and Fabrication Shop and Garages during regular Shop hours. Assists Teaching and Learning group staff with the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instruction documents for fabrication equipment.
- Reinforces a culture of safety within the fabrication spaces by ensuring shop user adherence to safe working policies and procedures.
- Works with internal Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) officers to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and standards.
- Procurement responsibilities - monitoring consumables inventories and placing orders to replenish stock materials as needed.
- Communicate with vendors to schedule service/repair appointments, obtain quotes, preparing purchase requisitions as needed for ordering equipment or paying invoices.
- Troubleshoot equipment for basic repairs, perform basic preventive maintenance tasks on shop equipment.
