We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Grants Management. The ideal candidate will ensure the seamless integration of federal grants and contracts across their entire life-cycle. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, who will mentor and develop the grants team, foster professional growth, and ensure the highest standards of grants and contract management.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Oversee all operations related to grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with the company’s strategic goals.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on the life cycle of grants and contracts management, including the development and implementation of processes and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with government regulations (NIH, DoD, BARDA, etc.) and reporting requirements while keeping principal investigators informed of relevant deadlines, financial statuses, and responsibilities.
- Lead indirect cost rate submissions and negotiations.
- Manage procurement classifications and financial reporting, providing principal investigators with accurate data on budgets, spending projections, and personnel resources.
- Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with scientists and research teams, providing strategic guidance from proposal development to post-award management.
- Ensure smooth collaboration between finance and program management during both pre-award and post-award processes for government grants and contracts.
- Mentor and develop team members in grants management, and indirectly support professional growth in finance, accounting, and program management.
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, staying informed of potential grant funding opportunities.
- Provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior management to support decision-making processes.
- Liaise with and audit sub-contracted activities to ensure performance, reporting, and invoicing align with expectations.
- Communicate with principal investigators and team members throughout the grant or contract process.
- Provide transparency and education to leadership and stakeholders on the complexities of grant administration.
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of legal, compliance, and transparency requirements associated with federal grants and contracts, with a willingness for continuous education in these areas.
- Ability to multitask and re-evaluate priorities with a sense of urgency.
- Familiarity with financial management software and systems.
- In-depth knowledge of government grant and contract processes, including federal agency regulations (e.g., NIH, DoD, CDC, BARDA, NSF).
- Proven ability to drive process improvements and implement best practices.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or CPA/CFA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in Grant Management, with additional consideration for experience in Operations, Program Management, Finance, or Compliance in Research Administration.
