Coordinates the support for all leave of absence cases and workers’ compensation claims. Effectively coordinates all cases/claims to include general administration, comprehensive case management and program compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act and all related employment laws. Works primarily with TPA’s, works with the WC investigation and FMLA/Disability system. Performs exemplary customer service and assistance to HR business partners, managers.
Education/Training:
- Minimum Associates degree.
- Four-year degree preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

- Strong PC skills with demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Outlook and Internet.
- Comprehensive understanding of FMLA, Worker’s Compensation and benefit policies and administration.
- Ability to demonstrate effective time management skills, with ability to meet deadlines, and to manage assigned projects/tasks from initiation to completion as required, and with a sense of urgency, if necessary
- Independent judgment and thinking; demonstrates initiative, strong verbal and written communication skills; and exhibits professionalism in dealing with others (internally and externally).
- Ability to communicate and make recommendations to upper management.
- Ability to identify basic problems and procedural irregularities, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Essential Job Functions:
- Serves as the subject matter expert for the leave and workers’ compensation programs in alignment and under the general direction and guidance of Benefits Manager.
- Interprets and administers leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.). Ensures that the workers’ compensation program is managed in accordance with applicable OSHA and workers’ compensation laws.
- Administers all aspects of leave and workers’ compensation programs to include tracking hours used/taken and working closely with the HRIS, Workers Comp third party administrator (TPA) and Payroll to ensure that pay for associates is accurate and correct.
- Provides extensive case management (in conjunction with TPA for workers compensation cases) and coordinates administrative aspects of the cases and claims.
- Ensures that all reportable workers’ compensation claims are submitted to the company’s TPA within 48 business hours from the date of the incident.
- Liaison to work with managers on finding alternate work arrangements or and/or Fit for Duty liaison.
- Educate and inform employees regarding workers compensation process and their rights.
- Coach and counsel Department Leaders and department chairs regarding their role in the workers compensation process
- Develop and conduct workshops and education sessions regarding the leave process
- ADA Administration: Counsel and assist faculty and staff regarding the ADA process, including interpreting policies, procedures, and regulations
- Manage the interactive process for ADA reasonable accommodation requests
- Maintains appropriate contact with all associates on leave and coordinates all aspects of return to work for associates on leave.
- Assist with managing STD/LTD programs and vendor relationships. Ensures that STD claims are coordinated with FMLA or general medical cases.
- Partners closely with HRBPs on all related cases/claims. Meets regularly to review the status of cases/claims and develops legally sound strategies for a mutually beneficial resolution.
