Position Overview:
Seeking an experienced Industrial Designer / Design Engineer to join our global design team. This role involves collaboration with mechanical engineers, manufacturing experts, product line managers, and other stakeholders to create high-quality, market-ready designs that meet customer needs and adhere to our technical standards. You will support the design of a wide range of products, including connectors, adaptors, testing devices, and packaging.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in conceptualizing and developing innovative fiber optic hardware solutions for various market segments.
- Create 3D models and prototypes to demonstrate functionality and appearance.
- Engage in field research to gain insights and enhance design effectiveness.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and design reviews, contributing ideas and feedback to the global design team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design intent aligns with project objectives and business goals.
- Prepare detailed design documentation and presentation materials.
- Educate and advise on industry best practices for Visual Language, Design Thinking, and UX/UI.
- Execute packaging and label graphics that comply with current standards.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
- 1+ years of product development experience.
- Portfolio showcasing relevant design work is required.
Skills for Success:
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey design intent clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in CAD software; experience with CREO is preferred.
- Creative problem-solver who challenges the status quo.
- Strong digital sketching and visual communication skills.
- Expertise in KeyShot and Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Solid understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.
- High personal standards for detail and craftsmanship.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback in collaborative environments.
- Curiosity about design, sustainability, and cutting-edge tools.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/A).
- Understanding of human factors and ergonomics; additional UX training is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with regular computer and phone usage.
- Light physical effort, including frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials.
- Occasional visits to manufacturing facilities, labs, and fieldwork where personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required.
