Job Title: Process Engineer
Location: Baltimore, MD
Duration: Full time (Direct Hire)
They are looking for someone to work in a regional engineering leadership position on process engineering and project management activities. This will include maintenance, improvement and expansion investments. The person is responsible to lead these investments through the different phases of project definition, engineering, execution, commissioning and startup. In addition, acting as a technical expert on our coagulant manufacturing processes, this person will be involved in continuous improvement and the resolution of manufacturing problems.
Responsibilities will include:
• Follow all EHS requirements
• Manage multiple small to large (USD $0.1-3M) capital investment projects simultaneously at different manufacturing sites.
• Oversee and manage external engineering teams, activities and deliverables on larger projects or for engineering disciplines outside of Kemira`s internal capabilities.
• Collaborate with sourcing managers on procurement activities.
Perform process design:
o P&IDs & PFDs
o Production capacity analysis
o Determine process conditions
o Write Process Functional Descriptions
o General Arrangement drawings
o Sizing and selection of process equipment (tanks, reactors, pumps, valves, piping, instruments, etc.)
o Selection of appropriate materials of construction
o Determine equipment/instrument specifications based on Generally Accepted Engineering Practices and Standards and internal Best Practices.
o Write Process Functional Descriptions
• Collaborate with plant management on capital projects to ensure proper process design and equipment specification
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for manufacturing and maintenance
• Drive continuous improvement of plant manufacturing processes and systems.
• Assist with all aspects of process safety, including:
o Management of change (MOC) process
o Process hazard analysis (PHA) and risk assessment
o Steward process safety and MOC action items to completion
o Audit process safety-related policies and systems
o Conduct pre-start up safety reviews (PSSR)
o Investigation and resolution of process incidents
• Assist with creation of SOP’s for new and existing equipment and processes as needed.
• Work closely with plant personnel to optimize plant processes
• Maintain plant drawings, equipment & instrument indexes, etc.
• Ability to travel up to 25% to other coagulant sites and Global travelling capability for collaboration and occasional meeting requirements.
What you’ll bring to the team:
• 4 year bachelor’s degree, preferably in Chemical Engineering
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment with a working knowledge of plant technical process flows and operations, including progressive track record. (Process Engineer, Production Engineer, etc.)
• Information technology skills with advanced knowledge of MS Excel and ERP SAP
• Superior Interpersonal Skills
• Requires overall knowledge of chemical processing equipment, plant processes, environmental guidelines, and state, federal and local employment law.
