Job Summary:
The Tax Analyst is responsible for ensuring compliance with sales tax regulations and managing sales tax-related activities for the company. This role involves preparing and filing sales tax returns, maintaining accurate records, analyzing tax data, and assisting with audits and tax planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sales Tax Compliance: Prepare and file accurate sales tax returns for various jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Data Analysis: Analyze sales transactions and tax data to ensure proper sales tax treatment and identify any discrepancies or areas for improvement.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sales tax transactions, exemptions, and credits.
- Audits: Assist with sales tax audits by gathering necessary documentation, responding to auditor inquiries, and implementing audit recommendations.
- Research: Stay current with changes in sales tax laws and regulations, and provide recommendations to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Reporting: Prepare reports related to sales tax liabilities, credits, and exemptions, and present findings to management.
- Systems Management: Support the maintenance and enhancement of sales tax software and systems, ensuring they are properly configured for compliance.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Legal, to resolve sales tax issues and ensure accurate tax treatment of transactions.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in sales tax processes.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience: 2-4 years of experience in sales tax or a related field. Experience with sales tax compliance and reporting is preferred.
