Position Summary:
The Engineering Intern at Elizabethtown Gas (ETG) effectively assists department leaders and personnel by working on various projects and initiatives to impact the organization’s continued growth while gaining valuable hands-on experience. This is an excellent opportunity at an inclusive and growing organization that allows the Intern to experience entry-level engineering tasks related to design, testing, project management and system integrity. The Intern will work collaboratively with experienced engineers to perform the day-to-day engineering department tasks, shadow actual operations, and complete unique assignments that support larger Engineering projects. As part of the comprehensive internship program, interns will participate in events which help them build a strong network within the SJI community and with fellow interns. Interns enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work environment throughout this 11-week summer program. The Ignite Internship Program also offers participants mentorship, educational seminars, volunteer opportunities, and visibility within the organization.
Essential Functions:
Assist with gas pipeline designs for new business and pipeline replacement projects
Enter project data into project management systems
Review gas infrastructure records and organize documents
Participate in field visits to construction projects
Support integrity management process, automate Excel files, and evaluate data
- Prepare and collaborate on a cross-functional project with the opportunity to present to the SJI Executive Leadership Team
- Regular meetings with assigned mentor and various organizational leaders to discuss goals and professional development
Qualifications:
Required Skills:
- Superb written and verbal communication skills, with a professional demeanor
- Intellectual curiosity, with the ability to think critically and creatively and evaluate complex information
- A “can-do” attitude, with a desire to learn and develop
- Collaboration and teamwork skills, with an ability to provide support and assistance to teammates
- Availability to work a hybrid schedule at the office in Union, NJ, Monday through Friday during daytime business hours
Preferred Skills:
- Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or another similar digital drafting software
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint)
Required Background:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, with a graduation date of Fall 2025 or later
- The ideal candidate would be a rising Junior, Senior or Masters student, however all students are welcome for consideration
