Job Summary:
This role is for a Superintendent of paving projects. The specific responsibilities of this role will be discussed with the general manager and project manager. The number one responsibility of a superintendent is to create a safe workplace, and to set an example for safety for their crew. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, facilitating job site preparation, start-up and breakdown for the crew, tracking/reporting time, reporting field quantities, collecting receipts, and collecting tickets. The role will require a significant level of communication on a daily basis with all invested groups, such as Project Managers, Schedulers, Dispatchers, Equipment Managers, and material suppliers and the customer. As a superintendent you are responsible for the logistics of ensuring that all necessary materials, equipment, and individuals are on site each day to achieve successful production. A typical day will include travel to the job site for the start and end of the day, as well as travel between job sites in order to prepare the next site. Delegation will be the key to success in this role as you are not meant to be working on a crew, but instead guiding and preparing the crew for success in their day-to-day tasks.

9. Participate in the daily operations call to report job progress, schedules, and issues
10. Create 2-week look ahead schedules each week
11. Contribute to the monthly job cost report process with Project Managers for use in creating and updating contract schedules and updated work-in-progress reports for internal and external use
12. Ensure all field quantities and employee time is submitted daily
13. Comprehend and review all job books
14. Record all communications with customers and engineers
15. Get all change language on projects recorded in writing from an authorized party
16. Assist in the execution of formal change orders
17. Communicate and reinforce company vision, value, and goals.
18. Continue enhancing PII’s image in the construction industry as the supplier and employer of choice in the paving construction materials market
Requirements, Education and Experience:
1. 5 years or more of paving experience, preferably with HMA, Cold-Mix Paving, Full Depth Reclamation, or Cold In Place Recycling
2. 3 years or more in a leadership role as a superintendent or similar position
3. Proficient verbal and written English communication skills. There will need to be constant communication between your supervisors, the project manager, and the crew on a daily basis. You will be the primary contact with the owner or inspector on site and will handle their questions and concerns as the project is ongoing
4. Organization. You will need to maintain a high level or organization in your daily work. Keeping organized notes, field log information, and records will be of the utmost importance to succeed
5. Delegation and decision making. You will need to make decisions for the crew and delegate tasks to complete items on a daily basis
6. Personal vehicle required; A reliable truck at least 3/4ton that can preferably tow equipment if necessary
7. Contract knowledge and forward thinking. Review plans and job books with the project manager no fewer than 3 days in advance of the project and begin setting up the job
8. Coordination. This means coordinating people, equipment, material, trucking, staging areas, water sources, fuel deliveries, and other necessary functions of the operation
