I am a solo civil litigator in Long Beach, CA with 47 years of civil litigation experience rated AV-Preeminent by my peers through Martindale-Hubble. I am seeking 1 experienced certified paralegal to work full time remotely, M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but also provide litigation support in trial in LA and OC courts from time-to-time.
The candidate must use a computer with an Internet connection, microphone, and camera. The computer must meet the recommended hardware requirements of LEAP practice management in the first table, at https://community.leap.us/s/article/LEAP-Desktop-System-Requirements-US. Other software will be downloaded to the computer. If employee wishes to use his or her personal computer, a reimbursement will be made for work expenses if we agree to that use, or I will provide the equipment.
The candidate must have a strong work ethic, be organized and detail-oriented, enthusiastic and professional. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of civil litigation primarily for business and real estate disputes and some trust litigation and appeals, and will be adept at managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. This role requires proficiency in familiarity with State and Federal rules of civil procedure, Rules of Court, and deadlines; Local Rules; individual judge's courtroom procedures, accurate calendaring of events and tasks, ,practice management software (LEAP); Microsoft 365 Pro online, formatting legal documents in Word; proficiency in Excel and Acrobat, particularly adding Bates stamps and endorsing PDF files; computer and word processing proficiency, case management, as well as general clerical duties.
Duties
- Assist in preparing for trials, hearings, and meetings by organizing case files and evidence.
- Draft, review, and proofread legal documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with statutes and rules.- Maintain meticulous records of all case-related activities.
- Manage case files by accurately filing electronic documents appropriately and ensuring all matters are up-to-date.
- Communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, and court personnel while maintaining professional phone etiquette.
-Requirements
-ABA-accredited paralegal certificate; Associates degree or paralegal certification preferred.
- Previous experience as a paralegal or in a legal environment is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of civil litigation and trust litigation in CA and federal courts is a plus.
- Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw is essential.
- Excellent proofreading skills with keen attention to detail.
- Strong clerical skills including filing, data entry, and document management.
- Ability work accurately and efficiently and be organized under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills both written and verbal, with professional phone and email etiquette.
