General Purpose of Position:
The Claims Examiner / Corporate Representative will serve as the designated corporate representative for the client in property claims litigation. This role involves effectively articulating the company’s position in legal proceedings to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
The following outlines the primary responsibilities of the position. This list is not exhaustive and other duties may be assigned.
- Analyze and evaluate various claim files in preparation for corporate representative depositions.
- Clearly and strategically communicate the company’s position in legal proceedings.
- Review applicable property insurance policies and key affirmative defenses.
- Testify in depositions, trials, and other legal proceedings on behalf of the company.
- Review legal pleadings and execute affidavits for motions supporting the company's defense strategy.
- Maintain a flexible schedule and adapt to changes as needed.
- Collaborate with defense counsel and claims management to implement fair and consistent strategic actions.
- Provide recommendations to management for potential settlement candidates.
- Stay current on claims-handling statutes, legal procedures, and legislation.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of claim files.
- Assist with departmental projects or claims-handling tasks as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience adjusting property insurance claims in a corporate setting.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting property insurance policies and applicable coverages.
- Florida All Lines Adjuster License in good standing required; additional adjuster licenses must be obtained within 3 months of hire.
- Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
- Strong time management, organizational, and scheduling skills.
- Previous experience with catastrophic claim handling preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and web-based programs.
- Experience using claim management systems.
- Ability to manage relationships in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating persistence and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and negotiation skills.
- Emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, confidence, empathy, and conflict management.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Certificates or Licenses:
Relevant professional designations or skill certifications as required by regulatory entities are desirable.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. They may also need to stand, walk, reach, kneel, and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. The work environment is typically quiet, and daily tasks may involve using a PC, telephone, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment.
