Job Description: Citrix VDI Engineer
Scope of the Project:
The subject expert will focus on the design and development of a CUI VDI environment, Windows systems and images, technical and engineering support, and one-on-one training for identified System Administrators.
Daily Duties / Responsibilities:
The Mid-Senior level Citrix VDI Architect will:
- Provide level-2 and level-3 technical support for the Citrix/XenApps server environment.
- Analyze and evaluate major system project requirements, understanding all parameters affecting and interfacing with the system.
- Review user requirements and provide direction in identifying problems and potential resolutions.
- Offer analytical support in the conceptualization, development, and implementation of complex, inter-linked systems.
- Define system objectives and prepare system design specifications to meet user requirements and resolve interface problems.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing level-2 and level-3 technical support for Citrix/XenApps server environment.
- Monitoring the VDI platform with various client tools (Netscaler, ControlUP).
- Supporting VDI End-User Sessions and VDI Stack.
- Managing and providing technical support at level-2.
- Ensuring virtual sessions function as intended.
- Handling IT-VDI related requests or inquiries received by the client helpdesk.
- Ensuring all Citrix platform server systems under management have updated software patches.
- Supporting XenDesktop Broker, including VDI monitoring and alerting for Citrix/VMware applications responsible for delivering virtualized desktops or applications.
- Ensuring high levels of client satisfaction for supported products/solutions.
- Addressing all technical questions around VDI and Citrix.
- Participating in client meetings to update team members.
- Acting as the technical Subject Matter Expert within the domain.
Qualifications:
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- Advanced system testing tool knowledge & experience.
- Strong technical experience with Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix XenServer, and VMware (vSphere).
- Ability to work well within a team environment.
- Experience with workflow analysis.
- Technical collaboration for client problem-solving.
- Ability to apply best practices to ensure maximum production.
- Ability to provide one-on-one training to teammates.
Required Skills (Ranked in Order of Importance):
- Effective communication skills (written and oral).
- Proven experience with Citrix/XenApps, VMware Administration, Microsoft Windows Servers, Citrix App Layering.
- Team member training.
- Citrix Administration Certification.
- Adaptable, flexible, and self-motivated with strong technical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills (Ranked in Order of Importance):
- Ability to effectively communicate with large or small groups through written or spoken communication.
- Ability to analyze, use structured problem-solving and available tools to troubleshoot systems in a critical environment, identify root causes, create action plans, and resolve issues.
- Ability to plan large, complex undertakings and effectively focus group efforts to execute plans for infrastructure implementation of systems.
- Must be a self-starter demonstrating the willingness to address/resolve ambiguity and conflict within a complex VDI environment.
- Develop update processes and work with team members to maintain currency in the VDI environment.
Required Education:
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
- Five years or more of professional experience supporting a large-scale enterprise Windows environment and experience in Citrix VDI.
