Manufacturing Automation Engineer - Job Description
PURPOSE:
As a Manufacturing Automation Engineer, you will spearhead initiatives to automate diverse manufacturing processes, enhancing operational efficiency and productivity across our U.S. and Mexican facilities. This role involves understanding the requirements of our operations, crafting customized automation strategies, and ensuring the effective integration of automation technologies. Your responsibilities include project development and execution, as well as acting as an advisor on plant-led automation projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Client Engagement and Requirements Gathering:
- Collaborate closely with client plants to comprehend their automation needs and operational challenges.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing systems and processes to identify opportunities for automation, including process combinations and changes.
2. Project Execution:
- Prepare justification documents and secure buy-in from client sites.
- Engage with vendors to obtain quotes, oversee design processes, and manage vendor performance.
- Coordinate design reviews, installation needs, system testing, and commissioning. Provide on-site support and troubleshooting during the initial startup phase.
- Lead and manage projects to completion, working with collaborative teams that may include Manufacturing, Materials, Quality, and other functions.
- Deliver training, documentation, and maintenance procedures to ensure successful operation of new equipment.
3. Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in automation technologies.
- Recommend and implement improvements to existing automation systems to enhance performance and efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (e.g., robotics, automation, industrial, manufacturing).
- Experience: 5-7 years of experience in developing and executing manufacturing automation projects.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on designing processes that address current and future needs.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with plants, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Capability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient project management skills to oversee automation projects from initiation to completion.
