The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.The Carle Electrophysiology Lab performs many exciting and innovative procedures including, but not limited to: Pacemaker/ICD Insertion, Implanted Loop Removal, Lead Extraction, Left Atrial Appendage Closure, EP Study, and Radiofrequency/Cryo Ablation. Staff are responsible for collaborating with physicians and members of the Prep/Recovery and Procedure Lab staff to facilitate excellent patient care. The HVI offers several unique opportunities for personal and professional growth, flexible staffing options (i.e. cross-training, job sharing, minimal on-call shifts), HVI MD Lecture series (which includes free CEUs for staff), mentoring program (to support new hires and transfers), and educational events with various HVI equipment and procedural training.
- Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
- Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and that is based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
- Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
- Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers, and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solution.
- Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
- Evaluate and enhance your own nursing practice by utilizing the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses, and Scope and Standards of Practice to provide direct 1:1 patient care to adult patients undergoing a variety of diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures.
- Administer moderate sedation and other medications in a safe manner by following Carle Polices.
- Perform hemodynamic monitoring, identify potential life-threatening arrhythmias, and implement appropriate clinical treatment.
- Collaborate with patients and families to answer questions and provide emotional support when needed.
- Enhance patient care activities and act as a safety advocate through participation in ongoing department quality improvement and evidence-based practice projects.
- Coordinate safe care delivery through effective communication with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Recognize and adapt to potential changes in procedures while responding to emergent situations.
- Participate in a fun, supportive, collaborative environment while working as part of a cohesive 3-4 staff team, comprised of RNs and Radiology Technologists.
- Administers medications necessary for procedure.
