Senior Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist
Our long-term client is looking to add an experienced EHS professional to their team. The role is open due to promotion and will join an existing team of 7 talented EHS professionals at their Baton Rouge plant. They are a leading producer / supplier within the oil and gas industry with plants in 6 different countries across the globe.
This is an onsite role working first shift Monday – Friday. They offer a competitive salary, annual bonus, and comprehensive benefits including a very attractive 401(k) and stock plan.

Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate incident and event management to include investigations and audits.
- Investigate incidents and determine corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide expert Environmental, Health, Safety and Occupational Health advice to the site, ensuring effective communication of current activities, legislation and best practice requirements.
- Implement the global management system and ensure effective local systems.
- Serve as a primary focal point covering Environment, Health and Safety with external agencies to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Identify and execute continuous improvement opportunities, minimizing overall risk of harm to people, the environment and damage to facilities.
- Represent organization at trade association meetings and EHS forums.
- Provide expert advice regarding compliance with environmental permits.
- Oversight of the site industrial hygiene management plan.
- Provide input into capital planning regarding EHS improvements.
- Lead the contractor management work process for the appropriate assessments and audits of contractors and suppliers in support of the contractor qualification process.
- Chair daily Safety Advisor meetings and provide advice where needed.
- Lead site Responsible Care audits.
- Assist the Audit Team with management system auditing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, occupational health and safety, or related field.
- A professional certification such as CSP, CIH, CEM, or CHMM.
- Accredited auditor training.
- Prior Environmental, Health and Safety experience (oil, gas, or chemical industry preferred).
- Ability to ensure compliance with Louisiana Pollution Elimination System (LPDES) and Title V permits.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills including knowledge of effective workplace safety audit techniques.
- Strong leadership capabilities.
- Ability to work with minimum direction and self-manage competing priorities and workload.
- Planning, organization and time management skills.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to effectively influence and secure the cooperation of others.
