The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care under the direction and supervision of provider, registered nurse, or clinical care coordinator as prescribed by the New York State Practice Act. The LPN provides patient information to the health care team that influences the planning, provision, and evaluation of patient care. LPNs provide compassionate care that is respectful of each patient's needs, values and wishes. Under the direction of the RN or LIP, the LPN administers medications and vaccinations, observes, measures, records, and reports clinical data relating to a patient's health status. LPNs perform a variety of clinical procedures, such as urinary catheterization, tracheal suctioning, and sterile dressing changes with verified training and competency documentation. LPNs provide emotional support and educational material to patients and their families. LPNs are responsible to supervise care provided by unlicensed assistive personnel, such as medical assistants, patient care associates and patient care technicians. LPNs may start an IV and administer blood products with recommendation of their manager and additional specialized training.
No LPN, including LPN III, can assess central lines or response to medications and may not titrate medications.
This position is in Preadmission Testing where you will obtain vital signs, height & weight, EKGs and blood draws in preparation for surgery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Obtain and accurately record patient’s vital signs
Documents components of patient’s history
Communicates in an open and appropriate manner with patients, visitors and staff
Participates in in-office procedures under the direction and supervision of a licensed healthcare provider
Performs diagnostic CLIA waived testing
Performs venipuncture to obtain blood for lab testing
Prescription call-backs per scope of practice
Preps patient’s chart for pertinent clinical information
Maintains inventory of supplies, and keeps patient examination rooms stocked
Adheres to AMC’s regulatory compliance issues
Qualifications
High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required
Previous experience in a patient care setting - preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from physicians, patients and their family members or other employees within the work setting.
