Junior Electrical Integration Engineer
Location: Onsite Ashburn, VA
Our client is building a mission-driven team committed to delivering space-based solar power to the world. They uniquely operate at the intersection of space and clean energy. Our client is based in the DC area, backed by world-class investors, and are operating in stealth mode.
You will use your knowledge of microcontroller programming to help build our constellation of next-generation satellites. Initially, you will be responsible for creating and modifying controllers for motion control and applications to record and process data in ground test applications. Later you will be working on custom space qualified boards with microcontrollers and microprocessors.
Responsibilities:
Software
- Design and develop well-structured, maintainable Python, C, and C++ control and coordination systems for optical and mechanical subsystems.
- Support our mixed team of embedded and electrical systems engineers in their development efforts and tests.
- Balance future maintainability with speed of implementation.
- Participate in the entire software development lifecycle, from design through testing and deployment.
- Document your software architectures and code to ensure maintainability and future scalability.
- Write and debug Python to build mathematical models for simulation.
Electrical
- Design and simulate low voltage circuits.
- Program microcontrollers and other test equipment to support testing operations.
- Use power supplies, lab equipment, programmable loads, oscilloscopes and other testing equipment.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficient in Python with a strong background in developing software with direct hardware interaction.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and both verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with the following:
- Serial communication protocols (e.g., UART, I2C)
- Testing code with hardware in the loop
- Microcontrollers
- Visual Studio Code, Platform IO, Raspberry Pi and PICO
Nice to have experience:
- Experience with IoT systems, actuators, sensors
- Experience with PID controllers
- Aerospace experience, especially with satellite flight or ground software
