Transmission Specialists Needed
Our client operates more offshore wind energy projects than any other company in the world and they are committed to being the first energy company to reach net-zero carbon emissions.
One of their current US projects will provide over 900 MWs of clean, affordable offshore wind power. This project is in search of SEVERAL Transmission Specialists to support their project beginning in December of 2024.
Location: Holbrook, NY (offshore and onshore)
Work Schedule: Rotation (TBD)
Timeline: Start date is Dec 2024 and the project will last for 12 months with opportunity for additional renewals
Summary:
This role will support their program of offshore wind farms and you’ll be responsible for commissioning, maintaining, operating, and trouble-shooting high and low- voltage equipment in a safe and controlled manner, as well as providing safety guidance for all working parties in accordance with Client Electrical Safety Rules. The role will be based both onshore and offshore.
You’ll be part of the High Voltage Transmission System team where you, together with your colleagues, will service, maintain, and repair the HV equipment in electrical substations throughout the region. In this role, you’ll report to the High Voltage (HV) Transmission System Manager. As a team, they foster a safety culture and are able to reliably maintain the bulk electric transmission system.
You’ll play an important role in:
- providing safety by electrical or mechanical isolation, earthing, and switching of high-voltage and low-voltage equipment in substations for both planned and unplanned work
- undertaking preventive and corrective maintenance of high-voltage substation assets in accordance with manufacturer's instructions
- performing troubleshooting activities using alarm signals on SCADA or local control system
- operating transmission system configurations and contingencies for a wind farm and being able to comprehend transmission system relay protection schemes
- outage managing and network controlling in collaboration with relevant personnel and being able to operate the transmission assets using the SCADA or local control system
- leading contractors and working parties working on transmission assets within a substation and participating in coordination of inter-system operation, testing, and associated safety procedures.
To succeed in the role, you:
- have at least five years of electrical working and maintenance experience working at substation as a qualified person operating under the company’s HV Safety Rules
- are experienced in performing switching operations on high-voltage transmission assets
- need to become a qualified person under the Client with support and training provided to gain this internal accreditation in the first year of employment
- must be able to work a shift-pattern, sometimes spending up to 7/14 days offshore at a time on a service operation vessel (SOV)
- have clear medical checks (OGUK) and safety training programs as required by Global Wind Organization (GWO) standards and have a valid US driver’s license.
Training & Certifications Required: Must have valid GWO, TWIC & Drivers License

The physical demands outlined herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee must be certified and meet the medical and health standards to work in offshore environments, including cardiovascular fitness, respiratory proficiency, and overall physical wellness.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee will routinely engage in activities such as sitting, walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. They will be tasked with lifting heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and navigating uneven surfaces for extended periods.
Additionally, the employee should demonstrate manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for using tools, operating machinery, and executing intricate tasks. Furthermore, employee must be able to use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment. Effective communication, both orally and telephonically, is essential. Successful candidates must exhibit specific vision abilities of close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
