Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Quality Manager with the maintenance of North American IATF16949 certification for our Manufacturing and design site in Arcade, NY with internal procedures, audits and 3rd-party surveillance audits.
- Recommend and implement enhancements to the quality system that result in improved company-wide quality performance, increased Customer satisfaction, and/or simplification of processes to reduce costs.
- Provide Quality engineering support to operations ensuring consistent application of quality techniques:
- Resolve quality issues by identifying problems, examining solution options, implementing action plans, and providing resources.
- Effectively communicate and reinforce Prestolite’s commitment to quality improvement efforts
Participate in the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities to review/specify measurement systems used when a new production tool or a new process is introduced.
- Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Represent Quality by participating in weekly Component Quality Review (CQR) meetings; review and recommend Supplier APQP/PPAP requirements for sourced items.
- Prepare and submit PPAP per AIAG and Customer requirements.
- Coordinate Customer-defined change notification procedures in the event of a planned modification to process or product design.
- Facilitate and promote the use of appropriate problem solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action.
- Promote the "Voice of the Customer"; demanding the highest quality expectations from the organization.
- Resolve Customer complaints for starter & alternator products with a high level of attention to timeliness and quality of the response.
- Work cooperatively with Suppliers, both external and internal, to resolve quality issues through investigation, cooperation, and solid corrective actions.
Specific Knowledge and Abilities
- BS Engineering with work experience in an automotive or Heavy Truck manufacturing environment. Equivalent work experience in the automotive industry would be considered. CQE or CRE preferred.
- Knowledge of ISO/TS16949/IATF16949 and experience working with these standards in the automotive or truck industry. Training and experience in auditing to these standards is also preferred.
- Applied problem solving ability such as demonstrated by structured PDCA, 6 Sigma Green/Black Belt recognition and hands on use, or involvement with Kaizen problem solving teams.
- Demonstrate a results oriented mindset – maintain appropriate focus on short- and long-term goals. Motivated by achievement, and persists until goals are reached, conveying a sense of urgency.
- Experience with varying forms of problem solving documentation such as 8D, 5Why, etc.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, Minitab, Oracle or similar ERP software systems and applications. Ability to efficiently and effectively navigate web-based Customer portals.
- Able to communicate clearly and confidently with a wide range of audiences including Customers, Managers, plant personnel, etc.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally to visit Customers and/or Suppliers.
- Able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
