Job Summary:Supervises pharmacy site, services, and personnel assigned. Facilitates the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems and workflows. Ensures costs, including labor, pharmaceutical, supply, and other expenses are within budget. Performs duties of a managing pharmacist in accordance with all federal and state regulations and accreditation and certification requirements. Performs all duties of a clinical community pharmacist.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements: PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises staff, students and residents as assigned which may include: recruitment, orientation, training, performance management, staff development, counseling, disciplining, scheduling, payroll and conducting staff meetings. Serves as a resource to the pharmacy team in the provision of pharmacy services. Works collaboratively with pharmacy leadership to set performance standards for the pharmacy department and maintain pharmacy staff engagement. Evaluates and counsels staff on their performance. Leads by example and demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all duties of employees working within the pharmacy.
- Ensures efficient operations by the development of standard workflows procedures. Prepares appropriate task assignments for daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities to ensure all sites follow established workflow and procedures. Ensures processes are in place to collect payment and reconcile pharmacy claims.
- Assists in the development of the pharmacy budget. Reviews monthly financial and human resource budget and explain variances to supervisor and pharmacy leadership. Continually monitor pharmacy for compliance with annual budget and strategic plan.
- Creates and promotes a positive, customer service-oriented image of the pharmacy and ensures pharmacy meets a high standard of confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Ensures pharmacy customer service levels are maintained to meet the goals of the organization and ensure the quality of pharmacy services are consistently provided. Provide service recovery and conflict resolution when necessary to ensure service levels and quality of pharmacy services are maintained.
- Contributes to zero medication errors with injury by the completion of Near Miss and Occurrence reports. Reviews medication event reports and identifies and implements process improvement opportunities.
- Actively assess the security of medication areas and the compliance of personnel with established policies, procedures, state and federal laws including record keeping. Maintains established procedures for quality control and disposal of unusable medications and hazardous waste. Issues controlled substances and maintain records as required by law, pharmacy policies, and procedures, including reporting to any applicable Pharmacy Drug Monitoring Program. Reviews controlled substances records for discrepancies/errors and reports discrepancies to the appropriate authority(s).
- Maintain appropriate inventory of medications and supplies. Ensure inventory is rotated and expired stock is appropriately disposed of and orders are placed in a timely manner.
- Performs duties of a clinical staff pharmacist including verification medication orders, dispensing of medications, patient consultation and compounding following all pharmacy policies and procedures and in compliance with all state and federal regulations. Leads pharmacy site in identifying and completing medication therapy management opportunities and in recommending, administering, and educating on immunizations as appropriate. Stays current with professional literature and maintains the competence required for the position.
- Creates and maintains positive, productive working relationships with site leadership and prescribers. Provides support and serves as a resource for nurses, medical staff and other health care providers' medication information and education.
- Responsible for after-hours calls at their pharmacy first to answer alarms from the security company.
- Precept pharmacy students and residents, as applicable.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
- Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D; Bachelor of Pharmacy) from an accredited school of pharmacy

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Rare climbing.
