Positional Overview
Designs, details, and implements molding process and equipment solutions to enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost efficiency for both new and existing molding production lines. Leverages expertise in molding and plastics to develop molds, tooling, fixtures, and equipment that optimize productivity, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness. Applies scientific molding principles to conduct mold tool qualifications, mold process characterization window studies, and molding process qualifications. Creates and implements documents, including engineering drawings, equipment qualifications, and process instructions. Troubleshoots issues with injection molding machines, molding processes, tools, and molded parts using scientific molding tools, and develops corrective action plans with timelines. Collaborates with Design/Development Engineers, Tool Makers, Team Leaders, Technicians, Associates, Customers, and Suppliers to evaluate and improve designs and processes for manufacturability and cost reduction
Role & Responsibility:
- You adhere to all safety, environmental, security, and quality requirements, including but not limited to: Quality Management Systems (QMS), Safety, Environmental and Security Management Systems, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, company policies and operating procedures, and other regulatory standards.
- You develop new and innovative approaches to complex problems and lead projects to advance technological capabilities.
- You investigate and interpret internal or external technology and business trends, recommending best practices to the organization.
- You evaluate, develop, and implement a wide range of new technologies with significant scope and complexity.
- You may identify and procure new equipment and technology of significant complexity, scope, and cost.
- You originate new documents such as protocols, reports, specifications, and work instructions, and may also review documentation produced by peers and subordinates.
- You plan and develop engineering projects addressing unique or high-profile problems that have a major impact on key programs.
- You may lead cross-functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, or complexity, and influence others to achieve goals.
- You may supervise up to 4 to 5 technicians and/or associate engineers, and serve as a coach and mentor for other engineers, modeling the behaviors and disciplines of a technical professional.
- You initiate and maintain relationships with individuals and business units within or outside your site or organization. As a subject matter expert in your field, you may be required to deploy your expertise across multiple organizations or locations, necessitating occasional travel.
- You embed Quality within the engineering discipline—taking ownership of Quality. You are a standard-bearer for Quality in everything you do by ensuring adherence to the Quality Management System (QMS), facilitating or contributing to corrective and preventive actions, and contributing to the successful attainment of quality KPIs and the journey to 5 Sigma.
- You perform other duties as needed and as directed by your supervisor.
Skills & Experience:
- You have earned, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related technical field. A Master’s Degree or Doctorate is preferred.
- You are recognized as a subject matter expert, a distinction earned through 7+ years of progressive engineering and/or technically focused roles and experiences.
- Candidates without the educational requirement may be considered with 15+ years of relevant experience.
- You have a strong technical foundation in problem-solving and project management methodologies, with training and certifications in areas such as Six Sigma (minimum Green Belt, Black Belt preferred), 8D, RCA, 5-Why, Ishikawa (Fishbone), Kepner-Tregoe, and PMP.
- Your ability to observe, analyze, and develop solutions to complex technical challenges leads to breakthrough results in areas such as productivity, technical capabilities, capacities, or other competitive differentiators.
- You work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- You demonstrate the ability to lead team activities and act as a coach for less experienced colleagues.
- Clear and professional communication at all organizational levels is crucial in this role, and you possess well-developed written and oral communication skills.
- You maintain a calm demeanor that transcends the high-energy, constantly changing production environment.
- You have a positive, can-do attitude, with a strong belief that failure is not an option.
