Responsible for Safety Leadership on assigned shift. Provide guidance and support to the facility regarding Poultry Safety and Health Programs and requirements.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides resources for Safety Committee meetings, activities.
- Provides references that aid in recognizing poultry processing hazards and provides examples of possible solutions.
- Oversee the Training dept and employee training activities.
- Reviews accidents and incidents occurring to employees. Ensures that root cause analysis is used in determining reasons for accidents. Instructs supervisors on the basics of root cause analysis. Will act as lead facilitator for all acute incident investigations.
- Management of incident corrective actions through follow-up and cooperation of area supervisor. Coordinates and follows up with the Engineering and Maintenance departments to ensure that modifications/improvements are tracked, documented, and completed within established time frames.
- Assists in directing facility wide training topics and materials. Reviews on monthly basis for compliance with facility, corporate, regulatory compliance.
- Assists Complex Safety Manager in facility auditing program and follow-up programs. Ensures follow up and documentation of findings are completed within established frame frames.
- Maintains the plant Safety file plan in preparation for the annual corporate Safety audit.
- Reviews and recommends continued training and education of employees in safe and efficient work methods.
- Collects, maintains, and reports safety KPI and Management Accountability Program metric information.
- Ensure that necessary PMs are generated and completed that address safety sensitive issues. Completes annual verification of all safety PMs in the system.
- Ensure that annual reviews of various policies, procedures, and forms are completed in support of the Complex Safety Manager and the Safety File Plan.
- Coordinate any IH testing that may be necessary in the facility to ensure compliance with applicable OSHA directives.
- Ensure ergonomic principals are used in projects/processes that affect facility employees.
- Conducts ergonomic job analysis and identifies musculoskeletal hazards in the workplace after observing (and/or filming) how employees react to their equipment, workspace, and environment.
- Conducts employee surveys to identify adverse health symptoms resulting from job hazards. Creates project lists/action item lists based upon items identified through survey.
- Assesses the suitability of products and systems for the capabilities and needs of the workers.
- Assist in design improvements to workstations or job methods to reduce or eliminate musculoskeletal hazards. Coordinates and follows up with the Engineering and Maintenance department to ensure that all modifications/improvements are tracked, documented, and completed within established time frames.
- Conducts ergonomic research and performs statistical analysis of results. Is responsible for monthly and annual trend analysis for this site.
- Trains personnel in the basic considerations of ergonomic factors to improve awareness and encourage input from supervisors and workers alike. Trains supervision and management in advanced ergonomic principals and concepts.
- Responsible for all aspects of the Facility Suggestion Program.
- All other tasks assigned by the Complex Safety Manager.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities to serve as back up for Occ. Health (Medic/Nurse);
- Perform pre-employment drug screens and physical examinations.
- Review symptom surveys for new associates.
- Evaluate, assess, and treat job-related associate health issues.
- Assist with maintenance of all associate medical records and Workers Compensation records.
- Conduct annual hearing examinations.
- Assist with scheduling other annual health screenings/events including blood drives, mobile mammography etc.
- Assist with maintenance of OSHA and Workers Compensation data.
- Participate in safety- and health-related committees and meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Health or Health and Safety, Engineering, Chemistry or related discipline, or equivalent experience and education.
- Working knowledge of life-safety codes, OSHA and other regulatory agencies, WC laws and familiarity with occupational health.
- Familiar with Process Safety Management (PSM) preferred.
- Knowledge of Ergonomics
- CPR/First Aid Certified
- Basic knowledge of Industrial Hygiene practices
Working Conditions:
Approximately 70% of this individual’s time will be spent in a manufacturing environment, which is cold and wet. Approximately 30% of the time will be spent in a controlled office environment.
