A Government customer located in the NYC area is seeking a dedicated and experienced Fire Alarm Inspector to join their team for the current JFK International Airport construction project. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience, including at least 3 years of field construction inspection focused on fire alarm systems. This role involves inspecting and testing fire alarm systems in both new construction and existing buildings to ensure they meet all safety, regulatory, and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspection & Testing: Perform on-site inspections and testing of fire alarm systems, including detectors, control panels, alarm communication systems, and other associated equipment, ensuring proper installation and functionality.
- Code Compliance: Ensure all fire alarm systems comply with local, state, and federal fire safety codes (NFPA 72), building codes, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Field Construction Inspection: Conduct field inspections during the construction phase to verify the proper installation of fire alarm systems in accordance with approved designs and specifications.
- System Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot any issues with fire alarm system components, providing recommendations for necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all inspections, including test results, deficiencies, corrective actions taken, and system performance evaluations. Provide reports to clients and project managers as needed.
- System Certification: Ensure fire alarm systems are certified for occupancy by verifying that all testing and inspections have been successfully completed and documented.
- Client Interaction: Communicate with clients and contractors regarding inspection results, system performance, and any necessary improvements or repairs.
- Safety Standards: Ensure adherence to all safety standards during inspections and work activities, particularly with respect to fire hazards and emergency protocols.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest fire alarm technologies, codes, and safety standards. Recommend system upgrades or changes to improve fire safety when necessary.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, contractors, and other inspectors to ensure fire alarm systems are integrated into the overall building safety plan.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- At least 3 years of field construction inspection experience, specifically related to fire alarm systems.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with design and field engineers/architects, project managers, contract engineers, schedulers, and financial analysts
- Demonstrated experience performing inspection services in highly congested urban areas
- Valid Driver’s license
- SIDA Badge (or credentials to secure such)
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and/or Secure Worker Access Consortium (SWAC) certification (or ability to secure such)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with fire alarm systems in large-scale construction projects such as commercial buildings, hospitals, or industrial facilities.
- Familiarity with fire suppression systems, emergency lighting, and other life safety systems.
- Experience with testing and certifying addressable fire alarm systems.
