As a member of the Engineering Team, the Engineering Manager will report to the VP of Operations and will provide direction and support to a team of 14 engineers and designers. This role will also be responsible for team goal setting, technical and design leadership, budgeting, scheduling, and employee training and development. The Engineering Manager will communicate effectively with Sales and Manufacturing, develop the department infrastructure and standards, and oversee the production of outstanding technical documentation.
Essential Duties:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team.
- Assign and prioritize tasks, projects, and resources for efficient project execution.
- Manage projects related to reliability, continuous improvement, equipment installation, validations, and new product development; actively participate in engineering work, and provide technical support, knowledge, mentorship, and guidance at the floor level.
- Manage multiple engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring they meet cost, quality, and delivery targets.
- Develop project timelines, track milestones, and communicate progress to senior management.
- Establish and maintain customer relationships/expectations through communication of site equipment capabilities/performance and execution of the new product introductions (NPI) process.
- Monitor and control departmental budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Improve equipment uptime and minimize production downtime through preventative maintenance strategies.
- Identify opportunities for reducing waste, optimizing material usage, and lowering operational costs.
- Stay abreast of latest technology and techniques.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
· Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, BSME or BSEE preferred.
· 5+ years of management experience with a proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers.
· Strong understanding of engineering principles, including mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering.
· Proficiency in CAD software, manufacturing systems, and automation tools.
· Experience in the design of industrial equipment such as conveyors, packaging equipment, or food processing machinery.
Additional Skills:
· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously from initiation to completion.
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to create timelines, manage budgets, and allocate resources.
· Experience with automation controls using PLC’s, HMI’s, Servos, VFD’s as well as pneumatics.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
· Experience with design, fabrication, and troubleshooting of high-speed machinery.
· Ability to inspire a team to meet objectives, deadlines, and performance targets.
· Strong conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
· Experience in managing cross-functional teams and collaborating with other departments.
Bonus Skills/Experience:
· Industrial Food Processing Automation experience, dairy industry strongly preferred.
· Knowledge of sanitary design principles as well as common standards and codes (IEEE, ANSI, NSF, USDA).
· Management of third-party resources (technical consultants, contractors, etc.)
Travel:
· Position requires up to 5% travel.
