The Manufacturing Engineer supports the transfer of new electro-mechanical product designs from R&D to Manufacturing, and also supports day-to-day manufacturing operations. The role is focused on continuous process improvement and cost out to enable the business to operate more efficiently while delivering to the customer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work concurrently with cross functional departments to develop manufacturing processes that are robust, error-proofed, and efficient to perform.
- Conduct time studies to aid in tracking product labor cost, line balancing, and productivity.
- Lead pre-production build activity and oversees the design transition into full production.
- Continually assess cost reduction opportunities with design, process, or material changes
- Facilitates the design and fabrication of basic tooling and fixtures to aid in manufacturing.
- Provide manufacturing engineering feedback during product design reviews.
- Create clear and concise work instructions, test instructions, detailed reports, and other documentation as required.
- Assist in training Production Associates when requested.
- Support Manufacturing Operations and help ensure daily production targets and metrics are met.
- Assist in troubleshooting electro-mechanical system failures and help perform root cause analyses and corrective action.
- Initiate Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s) and Engineering Change Notices (ECN’s)
- Work with the Design and Manufacturing Operations groups on resolving supplier quality issues.
- Support the development of a safe, ergonomic, and environmentally sound workplace.
- Work with customers and sales team to define requirements and scope of new products and translate them into working engineering specifications.
- Able to lead small teams in problem solving sessions or lean kaizens.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- BS or higher degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- Skilled practitioner of Lean Manufacturing and use of Six Sigma tools and methodologies.
- Experience providing R&D groups improvement ideas and opportunities during the product development phase.
- Hand-on experience developing box-build type Production lines.
- Demonstrated flexibility, self-direction, and self-discipline in planning and accomplishing objectives and in meeting deadlines with limited supervision.
- Experience writing clear and concise work Instructions for the Production personnel to use to properly build products.
- Must possess a continuous-improvement mindset with a "Can-Do" attitude and actively seek solutions to problems, good team player with a pleasant personality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Visio, AutoCAD, or Solidworks experience is a plus.
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills and possess good analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with ESD prevention, IPC-A-610/J-STD workmanship standards, and Quality Management System Standards; ISO 9001 and 13485, and FDA standards knowledge and experience are desirable
- Proficiency using basic electronic test and measurement equipment including Calipers, Multimeters, Power Supplies, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Travel and working extended workdays as required to support Manufacturing Operations
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted; must be able to sit and/or stand up to 8 hours per day uninterrupted.
