Overview
We are currently partnered with a Global Fortune 500 retail company on their search for a Head of Data. The Head of Global Data Engineering and BI will collaborate across business functions, including Technology and Data & Analytics teams, to drive effective data management and maximize the use of data and analytics.
Core responsibilities include overseeing corporate data warehouses, analytics, and BI platforms, while leading a team focused on building and optimizing data pipelines for key consumers like analysts and data scientists. The team will ensure data integrity, performance, security, and governance, with a focus on integrating emerging technologies like GenAI.
Head of Data Engineering & Business Intelligence - Responsibilities
- This role leads a team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the company's data supply chain, including integrating both current and future data sources based on business needs.
- Promote data and analytics capabilities to functional and business leaders, educating them on how to effectively use these tools to achieve their goals. This includes incorporating cutting-edge technologies to accelerate business value.
- strong collaboration skills to work with various stakeholders and partner with cross-functional leaders to prioritize and execute initiatives.
- Oversee the development and integration of enterprise data and analytics technologies, including data ingestion, integration, data warehousing, reporting, and business intelligence tools.
- Enhancing development standards and best practices: Ensure scalable, high-quality data solutions through standardized processes such as DevOps, CI/CD, automation, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and support frameworks.
Head of Data Engineering & Business Intelligence - Requirements
- Strong, results-driven personality with a high level of enthusiasm, energy and confidence
- 10+ years in data leadership, managing global data engineering and BI teams.
- Strong financial acumen for managing operational and project budgets, including forecasting and providing cost estimates for resourcing to meet new demands.
- Experience integrating complex processes and data models.
- Expertise in advanced data engineering, with a focus on data mesh architecture, data modeling, and enhancing ETL processes and data pipelines. Skilled in using Azure Data Factory, Apache Airflow, and multiple data ingestion methods, such as batch, streaming, APIs, and enterprise hubs.)
- Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, and their data services (Azure Synapse, Redshift, BigQuery)
- Familiar with data privacy laws, compliance, ethics, and security best practices.
- Retail industry experience preferred.
