Position Overview:
Position Title: Principal Network Engineer
Location Information: Hybrid – Nashville
Duration: 6+ month contract to hire
Compensation: 73/hr
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Architect with a deep understanding of Azure, DevOps, and network infrastructure to join our team. The ideal candidate will have over 7+ years of experience working with Azure and DevOps technologies, demonstrating expertise in network design, implementation, and management across a variety of platforms. This role will require strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Azure and DevOps Expertise:
- Utilize 7+ years of experience in Azure and DevOps to lead the architecture, deployment, and management of cloud network solutions.
- Provide networking support to firewall, load balancer, and server teams.
- Deploy new networks/subnets in Azure and provide networking support for cloud infrastructure.
Communication and Leadership:
- Ensure responsive and clear communication across all levels, including team members, management, leadership, PMO, project teams, vendors, and architects.
- Track and follow up on multiple concurrent tasks to drive updates and communication until resolution.
- Lead communication efforts on high-priority issues and represent the networking team at change and architecture review boards.
Project Administration:
- Manage and communicate project status while leading internal and contractor teams on large-scale technology deployments.
- Document standard operational processes for new technologies and develop process creation and execution strategies for complex installations.
- Collaborate with the PMO on project design, organization, and delegation of tasks to engineering teams.
Training and Knowledge Sharing:
- Develop and conduct training sessions on new processes and technologies for peers and internal support teams.
- Write and review knowledge base articles to support internal and external troubleshooting and configuration processes.
- Lead team training in specialized areas and mentor junior staff.
Collaboration and Strategic Support:
- Work with cross-departmental teams to identify process and technology gaps, contributing strategically to the support roadmap.
- Develop relationships across departments and actively contribute to network reliability and architectural design sessions.
Vendor Relations:
- Collaborate with equipment vendors to understand product roadmaps, software bugs, and device lifecycle needs.
- Work with circuit carriers to improve network capacity, redundancy, and resiliency.
Documentation:
- Define and maintain documentation standards, including creating network documentation, architectural diagrams, and standard procedures.
- Develop and approve knowledge base articles to socialize resolutions with lower support tiers.
Support & On-Call Responsibilities:
- Participate in a regular on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend support.
- Provide escalated on-call support for all networking issues (store, data center, cloud) and lead P1 troubleshooting efforts.
Technology Expertise:
- Demonstrate expert-level knowledge in network routing and switching, including:
- Advanced understanding of OSI layers, TCP stack, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and EVPN.
- Proficiency in Juniper and Cisco configurations and VXLAN spine/leaf architecture.
- Hands-on experience with SD-WAN technologies, particularly Palo Alto CloudGenix.
Reliability and Performance Monitoring:
- Proactively monitor network capacity trends, raise reliability concerns, and recommend necessary improvements.
Voice and Wireless Platforms:
- Expert understanding of Voice Specific Protocols and how they travers our network
- Senior level understanding of Wireless Vendor Technology (Aruba) .
- Perform troubleshooting and escalation of wireless and voice network issues
Must-Have Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience with Azure and DevOps.
- Strong technical skills in network architecture, configuration, and management.
- Proven track record in leading large technology deployments.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced certifications in Azure, Cisco, Juniper, or related technologies.
- Experience in network design and operation within retail or similar industries.
