Job Summary
Provide support in all aspects of the development of new products as well as product upgrades and enhancements from concept through layout, detailing prototype development, and readying for release to manufacturing. Support with interacting with both internal and external fabrication vendors and consultants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with completing projects in planned timelines
- Assists engineers with analyzing product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to create designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods
- Actively participates in the process of working with manufacturing to ensure a smooth transition from design to the finished product
- Assist with assessing the feasibility of designing new equipment or modifying existing designs considering costs, time, limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors
- Assist engineers with completing and maintaining all required documentation – project books, control documents, ECO’s, standards, test procedures, and machine specifications
- Assist engineers with compiling and analyzing operational test and research data to establish performance standards for new equipment and new designs
- Participate in creating the next generation designs of new products, with recent technology available in the marketplace, exceeding customer expectations
- Assist in developing sketches of a potential customized product opportunity.
Competencies
- CAD software proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD).
- Understanding of manufacturing processes
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to articulate design concepts to peers and management
- Team-oriented with ability to interact with personnel at all levels
- Analytical thinking and troubleshooting abilities with good problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Willingness to learn and open to feedback and continuous improvement
- Adhere to all industry safety standards
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or engineering technology
- 2 years of industrial machinery design
Preferred Education and Experience
- 0-2 years’ experience in industrial machinery design
- 3-D modeling experience in SolidWorks or Inventor
Physical Requirements
The Mechanical Engineer will have prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The person may also need to spend time standing watching and moving around a machine. The environment could be moderately loud at times.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time salary position. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. As a salary position, work hours may be extended when needed.
Travel: Must be able to travel to customer sites on an infrequent basis. Travel would be about 5%.
