Overview:
As a Sr. Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the development and commercialization of new packaging materials, focusing on new product development (NPD) and sustainability. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Procurement, Operations, Product R&D, Quality, and Marketing. Your work will ensure efficient and cost-effective packaging solutions that meet performance standards and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Packaging Design & Development:
- Specify and design packaging to ensure product integrity and appeal during shipping and display.
- Develop technical specifications for all packaging components, such as paperboard pads and corrugated trays.
- Test and analyze materials to select those based on durability, sustainability, and cost-efficiency.
Cost & Performance Optimization:
- Estimate production costs and propose cost-saving methods for packaging design.
- Review and analyze packaging materials for cost reduction and performance improvements.
Project Leadership:
- Lead packaging-driven projects, including equipment qualifications, line trials, and new product startups.
- Perform packaging performance testing in collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.
Technical Support:
- Provide technical support for packaging systems across various global regions.
- Establish quality control procedures to resolve packaging issues during product launches.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare bills of materials (BOM) and maintain product master data (PMD) for packaging projects.
- Monitor new and modified packaging performance on high-speed production lines.
Required Skills & Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or a related technical discipline is required.
- Advanced degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a corporate Package Development environment, preferably within the CPG or food industry.
Technical Competencies:
- Thorough knowledge of packaging materials, converting technology, and distribution methods.
- Proficient in packaging operations, ASTM/ISTA standards, and high-speed packaging machines.
- Functional knowledge of printing processes, color management, and product lifecycle management (PLM).
Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement solutions effectively.
- Strong communication skills for working with both technical and non-technical teams.
