Titan Virginia Ready Mix has an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Manager located in Norfolk, VA. This salaried exempt position reports to the Vice President, Mid Atlantic Ready Mix. The Environmental Manager works independently and is responsible for providing technical and engineering support in environmental matters at all facilities within the division.
The primary function of this position is to develop and oversee the environmental programs and ensure all facilities maintain regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead the environmental efforts for the division to ensure appropriate standards are communicated and maintained
- Obtain all required environmental permits to construct and operate all assigned facilities, negotiate permit conditions to be least burdensome to facility operations using experience and knowledge and develop and implement environmental management plans as required by permits or regulations
- Develop and implement an environmental management program to regularly evaluate environmental compliance at assigned facilities, effectively communicate issues of non-compliance to management, determine effective methods to correct and track completion of necessary corrections
- Investigate and resolve compliance problems, questions, or complaints received; interface as the company advocate/liaison for environmental issues between the regulatory agencies and facility operations
- Assist in planning and provide engineering support for changes in existing facilities or construction of new facilities to meet environmental and land use requirements
- Ensure compliance requirements are established, clearly communicated, and environmental monitoring, reporting, and records retention is maintained
- Train company employees on relevant environmental issues and regulations, including related company policies
- Maintain a high level of knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental and land use laws and regulations, advise upper management of new and changing laws and regulations and their impact to the business; work collaboratively with facility operations to provide a plan of action to address
- Develop and assist management in researching, identifying, and implementing environmental improvement programs to promote increased environmental performance
- Travel to different locations within the division to inspect, audit, or research environmental issues as needed
- Actively participate in business related trade association committees to further knowledge on Environmental issues and to proactively address changes in regulations
- Other duties may be assigned as required
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or related field and 10 years related experience in heavy industrial setting, along with 5-7 years management experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of air quality and water standards, monitoring, and reporting.
- Experience and demonstrated ability managing environmental programs including working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.

- Learn and understand technical, regulatory, and external issues regarding the environmental programs at the plants.
- Positively interact with regulatory agencies to ensure understanding of requirements and obtain achievable compliance requirements.
- Audit and inspect industrial operations, identifying compliant or non-compliant environmental issues, and effectively communicate those findings to management.
- Develop, lead, and implement effective environmental compliance strategies and management systems.
- Effectively communicate required compliance activities to plant employees who are tasked with performing them.
- Prepare environmental permit applications, reports, and other communications for submittal to external parties including regulatory agencies.
- Communicate with internal and external parties in a collaborative, positive manner, representing the Company’s interests.
