We are seeking a skilled Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our collaborative Litigation team in Plano, Texas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and organize files in an orderly manner, following standard naming and profiling conventions when scanning, emailing, and saving documents to the document management system.
- Draft standard correspondence, memoranda, pleadings, discovery, and other documents.
- Prepare “shell” pleadings and discovery requests/responses.
- Review and ensure accuracy of vendor invoices; prepare accurate check requests and submit invoices for payment to client or accounting in a timely manner.
- Participate in the timely review and submission of prebills and client bills, including entering time.
- Possess strong clerical skills, including typing, word processing, mail and contact management, spreadsheets, presentations, and all firm systems and databases.
- Regularly and accurately proofread all documents to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to distribution or filing.
- Experienced in filing documents in both Texas and Federal courts, with proficiency in e-filing systems, thorough knowledge of court rules, and adherence to procedural requirements.
- Calculate and calendar deadlines per applicable rules.
- Coordinate and calendar hearings, depositions, mediations, etc.
- Assist in document productions, including Bates labeling, redaction, and indexing.
- Regularly and consistently update client files, prepare hearing notebooks, and pleading indices.
- Prepare mailings via FedEx, USPS, and Certified Mail.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Minimum 5+ years recent litigation legal secretarial/legal assistant/paralegal experience within a law firm preferred, with a minimum of 3+ years’ experience in Texas state courts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word products, including Excel.
- Punctual with reliable attendance, committed to regular in-office presence.
- Thorough understanding of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules, procedures, practices, and terminology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and excellent proofreading abilities.
- Experience with computer and legal database software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Pro; willingness to learn other software programs.
- Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and manage workload effectively.
- Positive attitude, collaborative team player.
- Notary certification is a plus.
Compensation:
- Competitive annualized salary range of $70,000 - $85,000. Hourly rate equivalent: $33.65 - $40.87. This position is non-exempt (hourly).
