Position Summary
- Position uses AutoCAD equipment and software to produce detail drawings, as-builts, sketches and diagrams for fire protection/safety systems.
- Work with the Engineering team to prepare project fire alarm design specification.
- Produce code compliant fire detection and alarm system design drawings and submittal packages.
- Produce floor plans, one-line diagrams, risers, diagrams, and details.
- Perform and produce voltage drop and battery calculations.
- Develop and maintain an updated library of symbols and drawings (templates) for use on future projects.
- Participate in all project phases, including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, construction documents and production.
- Collaborate with other design disciplines, construction management teams, external consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies and other vendors to meet overall project objectives.
- Assist with the review of RFI’s and submittals during the construction administration portion of the project.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Position uses computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop, design, draw and engineer fire protection/safety system based on code requirements.
- Is consistent with document preparation.
- Make sure all projects have the appropriate base files attached and that graphic information is arranged in the proper order.
- Check drawings for required information (such as correct base files, correct line shading and line weights, building orientation, correct spelling and grammar in technician input notes, attachment and position of general and keyed notes, room names and sheet titles) before delivering to department manager for review and sign off.
Education & Required Skills:
- NICET Fire Alarm Systems certification (level 2) – required
- Minimum of two years fire alarm experience – required
- IFC, NFPA, NEC Code Knowledge – required
- Motivated and willing to learn, able to take classes on product training.
- Able to perform site visits to survey and create drawings.
- Must be able to follow company required file management- including, but not limited to, file naming, archiving, backing up and converting
- Competent in the ability to originate and correspond by email.
- Must have excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
