Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing the company’s financial accounting processes. This role involves preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations, and providing insightful analysis to support decision-making. The Senior Accountant will also lead accounting projects and supervise junior accounting staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS) and internal policies.
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations.
General Ledger Management:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Oversee the preparation and posting of journal entries.
- Review and approve account reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets and financial forecasts.
- Analyze variances between budgeted and actual figures, providing explanations and recommendations.
Compliance and Controls:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal controls.
- Implement and maintain effective accounting systems and procedures.
Tax Preparation:
- Assist in the preparation of tax returns and filings.
- Ensure adherence to tax regulations and requirements.
Financial Analysis:
- Conduct detailed financial analysis to support business decisions.
- Prepare ad-hoc reports and financial models as needed.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and support.
- Review and approve their work, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in accounting operations.
- Stay updated with industry trends and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with a strong background in financial reporting and analysis.
Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial modeling.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and regulations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
