About the Role: Our Mechanical Engineering team plays a crucial role in the development of battery cells, modules, and enclosures that power our unique multi-day energy storage system. We are looking for a seasoned Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our Cell Design team based in Berkeley, CA. This team is responsible for the mechanical design of critical components within our iron-air battery cells and collaborates closely with module and system-level engineering teams.
In this leadership role, you'll manage a talented group of engineers, providing hands-on mentorship and oversight. You’ll also facilitate collaboration with our production lines, supporting manufacturing both in Berkeley, CA, and Weirton, WV. Key Responsibilities:
- Build and lead a high-performing team of mechanical engineers driving cell product design and development.
- Oversee the mechanical design of battery cells, ensuring alignment with performance, cost, and manufacturing goals.
- Manage risks associated with cell mechanical design and communicate solutions effectively across teams and leadership.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance design for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
- Partner with interdisciplinary teams, including chemical and electrical engineers, to set design requirements for battery cells.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, with 10+ years of experience in the industry.
- Proven track record of managing and mentoring engineering teams.
- Extensive experience in the mechanical design of metal and plastic components for high-volume manufacturing.
- Expertise in new product development for scalable production.
- Strong understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) principles.
- Experience with batteries, energy storage, or high-power products is a plus.
- Excellent technical communication skills, especially in cross-functional and external collaborations.
