Action Against Hunger’s External Relations Department seeks a resourceful and creative Content Lead, who believes in the power of storytelling to mobilize public support to end hunger and respond to humanitarian emergencies. This individual is an expert in content strategy and execution, is deeply knowledgeable in international development and humanitarian issues, and excels in writing, editing, and managing complex priorities under tight deadlines.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Communications, the Content Lead is responsible for overseeing all website content and a broad range of communications assets, to achieve fundraising, advocacy, and brand visibility goals. They manage content creation from concept through publication, oversee content collection efforts in country offices, and manage an extensive asset library on behalf of the US office. They will be responsible for managing two staff members on the Communications team.

This position is a hybrid role with a requirement of at least 2 days per week in the New York office.
Purpose: Lead on website content strategy, strategy execution, production, and asset management
Engagement: Collaborate with Communications, Direct Marketing, and country office teams, and external consultants
Delivery: Develop strategy and implementation plans for web content, project manage and execute on editorial calendar, write and edit for communication strategy outcomes, and tell the story of ACF to multiple audiences
KEY ACTIVITIES IN YOUR ROLE WILL INCLUDE
Web Content Strategy:
- Develops and oversees execution of the organization’s content strategy, style guide, brand guidelines, and editorial calendar, including all content on the website
- Leads weekly Content Meeting to coordinate content strategy and information sharing across External Relations team
- Manages strategy and execution of content-gathering trips, including extensive coordination with consultants, our regional office for East Africa, and country teams, drafting Scopes of Work and contracts, and strategic usage of the final outputs of these trips, including video production
- Analyzes and provides quarterly metrics reports on the performance of Action Against Hunger website content, and strategically uses data to inform content strategy
- Provides input to overall communications strategy and helps to identify and support execution of media outreach opportunities
Strategy Execution:
- Serves as primary editor and content manager for the website, both directly producing assets and managing others on the team
- Integrates SEO best practices into all of the organization’s content development and leads on project management and production of new SEO-focused content to drive website traffic and donations
- Oversees project management of digital and print communications assets, including annual reports, select donor materials, and marketing collateral to support the organization’s external relations strategy
- Identifies opportunities, develops storylines, and often leads on execution of talking points, fact sheets, press releases, annual report content, and other materials
- Provides guidance to Social Media Officer to ensure content on social media is in sync with other communications and marketing efforts
- Oversees all US creative assets, such as photos and videos, as well as US elements of international content archive (Brand Forum), including training of staff on use of the platform and sourcing images, stories, and more for staff producing reports, documents, and other collateral
- Manages video production on priority issues, coordinating with Multimedia Producer, Donor Marketing team, and external vendors to support impactful content
- Represents US office on Network’s Content Group, Brand Forum Management Group, and International Report Reviewer Group
- Collaborates with and provides editorial guidance to other External Relations teams, the advocacy team, the technical team, and the executive team on special campaigns and initiatives
- Supports internal communications initiatives and serves as internal “brand champion” to ensure consistency and enhance Action Against Hunger’s brand
DO YOU MEET THE PROFILE REQUIRED CRITERIA?
Required Qualifications
- 7-10 years of experience in communications, public relations, and/or journalism .
- Strong knowledge of international development, nonprofit, and humanitarian work.
- Proficiency in English. Fluency in French or Spanish desirable.
- Competency in Word Press, Drupal, or other Content Management Systems for website required.
- Experience with SEMRush or other similar SEO tools preferred.
- Ability to travel internationally 1-2 times per year for 1-2 weeks per trip
Required Skills & Experience
- Exceptional skills in professional writing, editing, and story development with strong attention to detail
- Strong project management skills, with proven ability to problem-solve, anticipate challenges, and execute solutions
- Experience producing communications tailored to a range of different target audiences, including translating highly technical source material into compelling, accessible content for the general public
- Demonstrated experience managing an editorial calendar and ensuring all communications adhere to brand guidelines and editorial standards
- Experience conceiving of multimedia web features
- Expertise in optimizing web content
- Ability to communicate complex programmatic work and related issues ethically
- Experience with media monitoring/ targeting tools such as Cision and/or Meltwater
- Experience using a data-driven approach to inform strategy
- Experience in the production of annual reports and other communications collateral
- Familiarity with graphic design, photography, and printing processes
- Strong presentation skills and communications skills to coordinate effectively with diverse teams
- Excellent judgement and a proactive, solutions-focused approach
- Ability to be respectful and collaborate across teams
- Proven staff management or supervisory experience in managing vendors / consultants
