Seeking a HVAC Controls Technician with mid- to senior-level experience to assist with facilities projects for a Department of Defense (DoD) client. In this role, you will perform HVAC control systems installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks related to mechanical, electrical, and low-voltage controls. The position is based out of a federal site in Indian Head, Maryland. The ideal candidate should be capable of scoping, estimating, and planning for minor HVAC repair projects and must be motivated with the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Site Location:
This base site is currently underway with renovations. Of the 1,000 buildings on base, 350+ are “explosives buildings” used for manufacturing and testing – our client holds contracts to handle all design support (and eventually take over IH design) for five major disciplines of design (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Fire Prot.) for all building & facilities renovations – also responsible for the chemical and mechanical safety of the design.
Job Description:
Support the full life cycle of small-scale projects from initial concept design through project completion
Perform routine maintenance tasks on facilities and equipment, including HVAC, electrical, digital controls, and other mechanical systems
Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with facilities and equipment, and repair or replace defective parts as needed
Respond to emergency maintenance requests
Conduct site visits to document existing facility conditions and develop new requirements
Prepare technical memoranda/reports to document facility conditions and project status
Ensure that all facilities are in compliance with applicable codes and regulations
Maintain accurate records related to maintenance activities and administrative tasks, including work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, equipment inventory, and time sheets
Qualifications and Skills:
Minimum of 5 years of experience without a license or certification OR 2 years of experience if licensed/certified
High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in facilities maintenance, engineering, or a related field preferred
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Refrigerant Reclamation and Recovery Certification
Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems
Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) required Familiarity with state and local building codes, OSHA regulations, and NFPA standards is a plus
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
