Job Description:
The Medical Coder will be responsible for accurately coding, auditing, and entering medical procedures and documentation using ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4, and HCPCS code sets. This role involves working collaboratively with medical providers and staff to ensure correct billing, resolve discrepancies, and make process improvement recommendations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enter the Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL) procedure and supply charges into PBAR or Cerner.
- Review, reconcile, and correct coding errors.
- Ensure compliance with coding standards and meet productivity and accuracy requirements (98% CCL charges entered within 3 days).
- Consult with physicians to clarify coding issues and missing information.
- Support Soarian Financials billing edits and processes.
- Perform other coding-related duties as needed.
Must-Haves:
- Education: Graduation from a formal coder training program or completion of medical coding courses (Two additional years of coding experience may substitute for education).
- Experience: 2+ years of hospital coding or charge audit experience.
- Skills: Proficiency in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4, HCPCS, PBAR, and Cerner. Understanding federal coding compliance regulations.
- A High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience with Soarian Financials Billing Edits and Processes.
- Familiarity with cardiac Cath lab procedures and billing.
- Experience in reviewing and editing previously submitted charges.
Onboarding Requirements:
- Background Check: Social Security Trace, 7-year criminal history check, and national criminal search.
- Medical Requirements: Immunizations (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B), TB test, drug screen (10-panel), and influenza/COVID vaccination.
