Job Description: The Corporate Librarian is responsible for managing and maintaining all company-owned information resources and associated content. This role ensures that the storage, archiving, and taxonomical organization of information resources remain consistent throughout the organization. The Corporate Librarian will also develop and implement cataloging systems, while ensuring the accuracy and relevance of cataloged items. A strong understanding of various software tools and packages is essential.
Responsibilities:
Strategy & Planning
- Develop a long-term plan for categorizing, indexing, and archiving all content and information resources, whether created in-house or sourced from third-party vendors.
- Establish a comprehensive taxonomy for organizing information resources, aligned with business goals and stakeholder requirements.
Operational Management
- Oversee the storage and organization of company-owned content, including documents, contracts, guides, handbooks, policies, and procedures.
- Create operational architectures for content on shared drives, development servers, application servers, and databases.
- Maintain a detailed inventory of existing electronic and paper resources, identifying knowledge gaps and making recommendations.
- Provide reference and research services for end users, unit managers, business stakeholders, and consultants.
- Train and guide employees on effective search strategies in online databases and other electronic resources.
- Instruct employees on locating, filing, copying, or entering content and data files on company networks.
- Track and report on the usage of information resources across the organization.
- Evaluate when electronic versions of hardcopy documents should be created.
- Develop, implement, and enforce resource usage policies.
- Collaborate with systems experts on hardware and software issues affecting the availability and accessibility of information resources.
- Execute special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Education & Certification:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science preferred; Bachelor’s degree may be considered with equivalent work experience.
- Relevant certifications are a plus.
Knowledge & Experience:
- Strong knowledge of bibliographic, cataloging, and archiving techniques.
- Advanced library management experience, especially in indexing and creating taxonomy structures.
- Familiarity with cataloging systems and tools.
- Hands-on experience with content-database integration and various database platforms.
- Advanced research and investigative skills, both digital and traditional.
- Proficiency in programming languages is advantageous.
- High accuracy in data entry and filing practices.
- Experience in gathering and analyzing business requirements.
- Solid understanding of basic project management principles.
- Knowledge of applicable data and copyright laws.
- Familiarity with organizational goals and objectives.
- Experience with various storage media.

- On-call availability for specified days per month.

- Must be able to travel off-site to storage facilities for hard copy management.
- Occasional out-of-state travel may be required, primarily to Houston.
- Base location: Birmingham.
- Part-Time position: Initially 2-3 days per week, starting with 3 days.
