The Role:
In this role, you will lead the systems engineering efforts for our bespoke software engineering and development program, focusing on stabilization and modernization of transitioned research for defense applications. You will design complex system architectures tailored to mission-critical needs, manage evolving requirements, and oversee the integration of robust cybersecurity principles throughout the system lifecycle. This collaborative effort will be crucial in transforming cutting-edge research concepts into battle-tested, operational assets that are precisely tuned to the unique requirements of our defense partners, directly bolstering our nation's security capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain comprehensive system architectures, from high-level systems of systems to detailed data flows, incorporating cybersecurity principles throughout the system lifecycle.
- Translate complex requirements into functional and software design documentation
- Lead system integration testing, enterprise-level test and evaluation strategies, and provide integration and test guidance.
- Design and oversee lifecycle support plans and operational maintenance strategies
- Develop and implement strategies for transitioning capabilities from development to operations
- Create and maintain technical documentation and high-level technical schedules, while communicating technical risks and limitations effectively.
- Collaborate with sponsors, project teams, government partners, and decision-makers to develop strategies, perform requirements analysis, conduct architecture analysis, identify gaps and dependencies, and analyze risks.
Key Qualifications:
- BS in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; MS preferred
- 7+ years professional experience in systems engineering, preferably in a consulting environment
- Expertise in enterprise architecture and systems of systems design
- Strong background in requirements management and creating and maintaining documentation including functional and the software design, lifecycle support plans, operational maintenance plans, test and evaluation criteria
- Prior experience designing and maintaining high level technical delivery schedules
- Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders
- Experience in transitioning software capabilities from development to operational environments
- Experience designing and documenting the path from IOC to FOC
- Ability to communicate technical topics effectively at all levels, including peers, executive management, and senior government leaders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of cybersecurity architecture principles and their application in system design
- Experience with both software and hardware engineering
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and DevOps practices
- Background in consulting or client-facing roles
- Certifications in systems engineering or cybersecurity (e.g., INCOSE, CISSP)
Location
This position will require onsite presence at client locations at our Maryland customer.
