Dickerson Oxton is actively seeking a full-time Paralegal to join our Kansas City based law firm located downtown. The Firm handles personal injury and mass tort litigation work and prides itself on working hard for its clients. It has obtained multi-million-dollar settlements and jury verdicts over the years and wishes to add a positive, team-oriented member to its team. This position is in the Firm’s mass tort department. This is an in-office position working Monday-Thursday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
Paralegal Job Responsibilities:
· Assisting with the preparation, filing and service of pleadings.
· Acting as liaison among all parties including court or other neutrals for scheduling and sharing information
· Coordinating the collection, review and production of documents and responding to discovery requests
· Compiling information and preparing statistics, charts, graphs and other summaries to detail findings for cases
and court litigations
· Communicating directly with clients, vendors and co-counsel partners.
· Requesting and reviewing medical records and managing medical record requests with clients and vendors.
· Drafting and sending correspondence
· Legal document preparation
· Working with electronic document production and database management.
· Opening new case files in case management software system
· Assisting attorneys with tasks as needed
Paralegal Qualifications and Skills:
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
· Excellent organization skills
· Attention to detail.
· Ability to follow direction and procedures
· Ability to prioritize workload and assignments
· Participating in educational opportunities to keep up-to-date on job knowledge
Education and Experience Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree
· Paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited program preferred, or a combination of education and/or experience
· 1-2 years of significant and substantive litigation experience as a paralegal/legal assistant in a law firm setting.
· Experience drafting, cite-checking, and correcting legal briefs (trial and appellate).
· Experience managing medium to large-scale document productions.
· Working knowledge and competency with case management software
