Guzman Energy has Market Based Rate Authority to buy and sell power in WECC and in and out of organized markets. Guzman interacts extensively with market rules and Transmission Open Access Transmission Tariffs (OATTs) and the evolution of markets in Colorado, New Mexico and throughout the west.
This job will require analytical skills and collaboration across Guzman’s business units (customer origination, supply procurement and development, and utility operations) to understand, advocate for and advance company goals while ensuring a level playing field.
Job is based in Denver, CO and will be expected to work in the office Monday-Thursday with the option to work remotely on Fridays.
Salary commensurate with experience and title:
- The compensation range is from $110k - 125k.
This position reports to the Director of Pricing and Structuring.
Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior Energy Analyst with a background in energy and finance to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting the structuring and pricing of new energy contracts and plays a critical role in resource planning. The ideal candidate will serve as a bridge between internal teams, summarizing results, managing project timelines, and driving actionable insights. Strong analytical skills, communication abilities, and excel expertise are essential for this role.
Responsibilities
• Support the structuring and pricing of new energy contracts.
• Conduct resource planning and analysis from outputs of our PLEXOS tool.
• Summarize and communicate complex analytical results to cross-functional teams.
• Assist in managing projects, ensuring timely completion of tasks and deliverables.
• Perform detailed financial analysis and modeling to support contract negotiations.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide data-driven insights for strategic decision-making.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and summaries for senior management and other stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Energy, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in the energy sector, ideally with a focus on resource planning or energy market analysis.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret and analyze complex data sets.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced modeling capabilities.
• Experience with PLEXOS or similar energy modeling tools is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced MA/MS/ MBA Degree in Energy, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Entrepreneurial team player, with a commitment to excellence and a passion for supporting the company’s growth, and the ability to prioritize and execute on tight deadlines.
• Experience in the utility, renewable, advanced energy economy, or gas industry strongly preferred.
• The right cultural and personality fit for a growth stage company working to transform the energy industry.
• Professional interest in the application to the energy industry of database and statistical
tools. Although actual energy‐related experience is a plus, interest in learning is more
important.
