We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer/Project Manager to join our team in West Des Moines, Iowa, specializing in environmental consulting. This role is ideal for someone who values teamwork and is eager to grow professionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in engineering design and drafting, including the preparation of grading and drainage plans.
- Actively participate in client and project meetings, fostering collaboration with office staff.
- Lead and mentor junior team members within our expanding office.
- Focus primarily on solid waste management projects, including landfill gas, landfill infrastructure, composting, and related initiatives. Responsibilities may encompass design, engineering, permitting, bid plans, and construction support.
- Experience in general civil engineering is welcomed, as well as experience in environmental work such as Phase I and II assessments, stormwater permitting, and spill prevention plans.
How You Can Make an Impact:
- Utilize comprehensive knowledge of engineering and scientific principles within solid waste management and related areas.
- Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, reports, and permit applications.
- Independently address engineering or scientific challenges, planning and coordinating work while representing the company at meetings and conferences.
- Oversee fieldwork in various terrains and weather conditions, including surveys, data gathering, and quality assurance for soil and geosynthetic material installations.
- Conduct office-based tasks, demonstrating proficiency in CAD drafting, Civil 3D for grading and profiles, mathematical calculations, report writing, and creating engineering plans and specifications.
- Engage in business development activities, including client meetings and participation in industry-related conferences and trade shows.
- Collaborate with senior management for technical guidance on complex issues and receive approval for proposed plans or projects.
- Expect approximately 20% travel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, including roles such as Resident Engineer or consulting in the solid waste industry. General civil engineering experience and a strong willingness to learn are essential.
- Iowa Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
