The Asphalt Paving Superintendent oversees and supervises personnel and activities associated with the paving division of the company to meet production schedules and quality specifications, utilizing complex problem-solving skills along with strong client and colleague interaction skills. The role is best suited for a team player who is action-oriented and can work with a firm yet considerate disposition.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise all asphalt paving operations in accordance with DOT, local and commercial specifications.
- Perform all routine project administration, coordination, scheduling, and on-site construction engineering activities.
- Manage all aspects of the operation including ordering of materials, logistics, maintenance, and outside services.
- Serve as direct liaison between field crews, subcontractors, foremen, and upper management.
- Work with the General Superintendent to stay updated on product knowledge and be informed of any changes.
- Lead staff of Paving Foreman and coordinate between other crews, subs, and vendors.
- Maintain a work environment that is safe and continually kept clean and orderly.
- Create and foster a work environment that includes instilling a positive atmosphere, promoting proactive and effective communication, facilitating problem-solving and minimizing and resolving conflict in a constructive manner.
- Recruit, train, and retain crew members and foreman to ensure they are focused on safety, quality, and productivity.
- Read and implement architectural plans and specifications (application rates, grades, slope, drainage, etc.)
- Respond to internal and external requests and provide high quality support to customers and colleagues.
- Complete jobs within budget and on time.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills Needed:
- Extensive knowledge of all asphalt paving activities and the ability to operate a Paver, Roller, and Skid Steer.
- Asphalt experience required; minimum 2 years as a Superintendent and/or 8 years as a foreman.
- Ability to build effective teams, inspire others to their best, and to coach and mentor.
- Strong analytical ability, quantitative and problem-solving skills, and excellent communication/interpersonal skills.

Pay Range: $100,000 - $120,000 per year
