Job Summary
The complexity of the projects being carried out by the Freeport LNG’s Projects Group requires process engineering support to perform due diligence in the development of new projects. The Capital Projects Process Engineer will perform as supporting engineer during the process design and analysis of complex deliverables such as conceptual process design, process simulations, heat and material balances, P&ID and PFD development.
The Capital Projects Process Engineer coordinates with all support stakeholders such as Operations, Maintenance, Procurement and OH&Ss for field executed work. The Capital Project Process Engineer is responsible of ensuring that the process engineering Requirements of all Capital Projects delivered are technically fit for purpose and meet the statutory requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Ensure of all projects are technically fit for purpose from a process engineering perspective and meet the statutory requirements.
- Participate in the PFD, P&ID and HAZOP reviews for new projects.
- Participate in 3D Model reviews and pre-startup safety reviews for new projects.
- Provide process engineering input to project governance reviews.
- Review conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, layouts, design calculations and equipment operability and material specification for the projects.
- Identify the process engineering deliverables, based on the scope agreed by the Project Manager, and use these as a basis to assist in the provision the project estimates and project execution plan.
- Report on project process engineering technical scope performance against the baseline plan and stated benefits of the project.
- Ensure that any 3rd party process engineering contractors adhere to the overall project quality plan provided by the LNG Technology Manager throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review process design and rated case simulations associated with LNG Liquefaction.
- Review process, rotating and static, equipment data sheets for the liquefaction units.
- Participate in manufactured equipment reviews, module check-outs and process walk down and reviews for commissioning.
- Participate in commissioning, start-up and post startup activities as required.
- Assist in troubleshooting and providing operational post startup support in the liquefaction units as required.
- Supporting permitting efforts (FERC and DOT PHMSA) during cooperating agencies reviewing period.
- Perform field walk downs and data collection. Position necessitates field activities, some climbing and occasional travel.
- Ensure strict compliance with the Management of Change Process.
- Support plant Operations personnel in troubleshooting process issues and concerns.
- Propose and collaborate with the engineering department on performance tests requirements towards optimizing production or solving process related incidents.
- Assure Operations & Engineering requirements and limits are considered for new projects.
- Propose and collaborate with the Operations Engineering department on performance tests requirements.
- Act as interface to Operations, Engineering, Maintenance and Operations for all proposed
- Support and actively participate in Freeport LNG's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management System, prioritizing safety in all activities.
- Implement routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions and cultivate a strong safety culture, inclusive of stop work authority.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Minimum Qualification/Work Experience
Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering Degree.
Minimum Experience Required:10+ years’ of Process Engineering experience, must include oil & gas, refinery, and industrial projects.
Proficiency with Process simulation tools, including dynamic, such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS and UNISIM Design. Experience working with operations teams.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering.
Preferred Experience: 15+ years of process engineering and project experience in US LNG projects.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
- High knowledge of Excel and Microsoft suites
- Proficiency with Aspen Plus and Aspen HYSYS
HSE Roles and Responsibilities
Support the policies, efforts, and programs of Freeport LNG Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System. Actively participate in the HSE Management System Policies. Ensure that HSE concerns are given priority in all activities completed within their area of responsibility. Implement routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.
Working Conditions and Physical Expectations
Location/Travel Information
This position is based at the Liquefaction Facility in Quintana Island, Texas, with travel to off-site locations or to Headquarters offices as required. Additionally, you may travel to EPC company offices in the greater Houston area, and occasionally to vendor or supplier offices and manufacturing facilities both domestically and international as project needs and resource availability dictate. A valid driver's license and TWIC are essential for performing the duties of this role. Frequent travel to FLNG Offsite Locations is expected to support Operations.

- Must be able to wear all necessary PPE equipment and operate in a professional office environment, both within and outside of industrial plant settings.
