PeerSource is currently recruiting for a Controller on a Direct Hire basis for our client in Golden, CO.
Summary
Oversee a team responsible for various financial functions, including accounting, grants management, audits, and financial reporting within the organization. This role involves guiding goal-setting, analysis, and ongoing improvement efforts to ensure efficient and effective service delivery to both internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls aligned with GAAP and applicable regulations.
- Lead the preparation and presentation of financial reports, including comprehensive annual reports, quarterly updates, and ad hoc analyses, ensuring transparency and identifying trends that require attention.
- Coordinate the annual independent financial audit, preparing all necessary statements and contextual documents according to relevant standards.
- Oversee grants management, ensuring compliance with financial reporting requirements, tracking, and audit processes.
- Liaise with affiliated entities to manage funding, monitor financial sustainability, and review applications and renewals.
- Direct the use and evaluation of enterprise resource planning software, recommending improvements in collaboration with IT.
- Maintain and enforce the internal controls framework, addressing areas of risk through training and communication.
- Manage accounts payable processes, ensuring adherence to approval procedures and overseeing accurate fixed asset accounting.
- Represent the organization in external advisory councils, providing guidance on finance and management.
Required Skills
- 7+ years of experience in administration/management with a focus in governmental accounting.
- Thorough knowledge and experience in governmental finance including accounting, procurement, risk management, debt issuance, and cash/treasury management.
- Working knowledge and experience with managing large, complex financial systems. Strong leadership and project management skills.
- Strong leadership experience include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Ability to analyze complex situations, identify potential risks, and devise effective solutions.
- Ability to remain flexible in dynamic environments, adjusting plans and strategies as necessary to accommodate changing requirements or circumstances.
- Bachelor's degree required. Preferred file of study in business, accounting, or related field.
- CPFO or CPA preferred.
Salary range: $125,000-$150,000 (plus excellent benefits package)
