SUMMARY
The Plant Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and leadership of the daily operations. This position is responsible for planning and assigning the work that happens with in the following departments: Shipping & Receiving, Logistics, Supply Procurement, and Facilities Maintenance. It is essential the Plant Operations Manager focus on the training and development of people throughout the department they manage, honing skills and leadership qualities in their managers to lead others successfully.
The Operations Plant Manager is required to develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective and efficient return on assets. They will implement strategies in alignment with company’s initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus for everyone.
This position reports to the Leadership Team in Boston.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct activities related to receiving, manufacturing, packing, and shipping of product
- Increase production while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining the highest quality standards.
- Responsible for production output, product quality and on-time shipping.
- Monitor operations; develop and carry out plans of corrective action as needed
- Successfully manage individual departments priorities
- Work with Quality Control department to be certain all GMP’s and HACCP plans and requirements are practiced
- Responsible for development and implementation of capital plans related to production improvement, repair, maintenance, and expansion
- Conduct safety meetings and audits to ensure safety
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Interview, hire and train all new leadership
- Ensure effective employee relations by providing coaching and development, problem resolution, counseling, and regular mentoring
- Provide and ensure all hourly employees and leaders are assessed in a timely manner
REQUIREMENTS
- 10+ years, experience in a key leadership position in a manufacturing facility
- 10+ years, experience with safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies
- 7+ year, experience in food manufacturing; seafood or meat processing a plus
- BA in Business/Engineering/Finance/Management/Food Science/Operations
- Strong project management and organizational skills; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects on time
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; able to navigate organizations to build relationships and garner support
- Able to provide leadership and resolve employee problems, complaints, and grievances
- Able to provide support and training to department managers to achieve goals
- Manage an environment that drives performance while maintaining a safe workplace
- Drive an environment of teamwork and open communication
- Direct and coordinate quality, safety, manufacturing, maintenance and distribution activities to meet and exceed the internal and external customer/regulatory expectations
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds
- Work up to a 10-hour workday: standing/walking most of the day
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit
- Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
- Ability to work Monday-Friday, weekends when needed
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives
