Position Overview
The Patient Care Manager (PCM) facilitates teamwork and unit pride by advocating for an environment that promotes high patient care standards and implements strategies to ensure patient and physician satisfaction. The Patient Care Manager is a registered professional nurse responsible for 24 hour leadership of specific nursing unit(s) within the Department of Nursing. He/She works in a cooperative and consultative relationship with the Nurse Management Team and other disciplines under the direction of the Department Director. The PCM assumes authority, accountability and leadership/management responsibility for the specific unit(s) as assigned. In addition to Patient Care Manager (PCM) duties, he/she may be assigned to work house supervisor shifts as needed.
The Patient Care Manager provides leadership to achieve unit, departmental, and organizational objectives within a rapidly changing environment. He/She applies advanced knowledge of nursing and management to manage systems of patient care, personnel development, fiscal and unit operations, performance improvement, and program development. The PCM promotes innovation and excellence in clinical, service, and team performance.

Education
Graduate from NLN School of Nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
License
Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Mississippi.
Certification
Must complete BCLS certification by the end of position orientation; must maintain current BCLS certification.
Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
Experience
Three (3) years' progressive professional nursing experience in an acute care hospital required. Management experience preferred.
Physical Demands
Work is mainly active: involves regular requirements to move about the unit, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. work involves exerting oneself to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard, copier, and 10-key.
Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discrimination in sound. Work requires close visual acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i..e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision.
Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able to work flexible hours, when required/requested.
Mental Demands
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations
Special Demands
Must be proficient with a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (i.e., MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Must possess the ability to work independently with little supervision and seek guidance as need to clarify assignments or request for more information. Must possess basic business skills, an understanding of general financial operations and major AR goals in the healthcare environment.
Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area ‐with the employee providing his/her own transportation. Must have a valid driver license. Job requires out of state travel for education purposes.
