Responsibilities:
- Work in one of the most complex communications networks and as a member of the team will be responsible for 99.99% system uptime with zero defects.
- Involved with system monitoring, routine preventive maintenance, customer problem tracking, and network problem resolution in all networking aspects.
- Responsible for System Administration, Network Monitoring and Management, new buildouts, existing network changes and maintenance, and IP and system infrastructure maintenance.
- Identify root causes of technical problems and develop procedural and technical recommendations for improvement.
- Plan and coordinate the implementation of new products into the production environment.
- Monitor specific system limitations to maximize capacity and efficiency.
- Perform equipment-level capacity planning and network performance activities.
- Maintain equipment inventory and configuration management records, including software releases, patches, and hardware changes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Data Center Standards, Service Management Quality Program, and ITIL standards.
- Assume responsibility for escalation and emergency response requests in a 24 x 7 x 365 environment. Occasional work is required during maintenance windows, outside of normal working hours.
- Monitor power, HVAC, fire detection/suppression, and local security and monitoring systems.
- Proactively identify issues, create tickets to ensure that all details are captured accurately, follow escalation procedures as documented, use the notification system to effectively communicate issues to customer service and upper management, and troubleshoot the events in a short time frame.
- Responsibilities and duties may evolve and expand; communication, flexibility, and adaptation are important skills.
Basic Requirements:
- AA degree, electronics school certification, or equivalent military training and experience.
- 2+ years of experience as a technician in SATCOM/Terrestrial environment with LAN/WAN industry standards, working knowledge of TCP/IP, and Ethernet configuration and functionality desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Industry certifications are a plus (Microsoft, Linux, VMware, Cisco, CompTIA, and ITIL).
- Working knowledge of Unix/Linux systems desirable.
- Candidates must have the ability to work and manage in a 24x7x365 work environment, multi-task while meeting deadlines, and work well under pressure.
- Flexible to work varying shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or a mixed) in a high stress environment.
- Must be able to change priorities quickly and multi-tasking is expected.
- Basic electronics troubleshooting skills desirable (ability to use and interpret readings from a range of test equipment including spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, protocol analyzer, power meter, Fiber test sets, etc.).
- Candidates must have excellent problem-solving, customer relations, conflict resolution, and written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of satellite technology and terrestrial technology (i.e. DSL, WIFI, Cable)
- Experience with Cisco, HNS, CATV/IPTV and other Telco and IP protocol core network and equipment
- Candidates must be highly self-motivated and independent, and comfortable working with others in a distributed environment.
Essential Qualifications:

- Climb ladders to heights of up to 20 feet.
- Work with hands and arms above their head for an extended period of time.
- Carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Be able to work repetitive tasks like installing/deinstalling cables/equipment.
- Have the dexterity to terminate various types of cabling (i.e. CAT6/6A, coaxial cable, fiber cable) with precision.
