Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced UX Design Manager to lead and mentor a growing team of UX designers, shaping the user experience strategy for our digital products, with a particular focus on mobile platforms. This role is a balance of hands-on design work (50%) and team management (50%), where you will help build and execute a multi-year UX strategy that aligns with company goals while coaching and guiding a talented UX team. You will be responsible for developing a customer-first approach, using user research, testing, and metrics to optimize the overall digital user journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Manage, mentor, and coach a team of 2 UX designers from day one, with plans to grow the team. Help develop their skills and careers through performance reviews, feedback, and hands-on training.
- UX Strategy Development: Collaborate with leadership to define and implement a multi-year UX strategy that outlines user research methodologies, testing processes, and experience optimization.
- Project Management & Execution: Oversee the design team’s intake, assigning tasks, tracking progress, and ensuring project timelines are met. Balance design work with managing team deliverables.
- Hands-On Design: Actively participate in the design process—leading by example with hands-on work in UX design, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, and interaction design.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Engage proactively with other lines of business to understand their needs, align on priorities, and ensure UX initiatives are integrated seamlessly into broader company objectives.
- Mobile Experience Focus: Design user-centered experiences on mobile platforms, focusing on improving user flow, measuring experience success, and optimizing key interaction points.
- UX Testing & Measurement: Define how to test and measure the effectiveness of user experiences, ensuring a data-driven approach to improving product usability and satisfaction.
- Tool Proficiency: Work proficiently with Figma and other design tools to create designs, prototypes, and collaborate with the team effectively.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of direct people management experience, with a proven track record of managing and mentoring small design teams.
- Design Expertise: Strong UX design experience, with a focus on mobile app design. Must be able to design user journeys, test, and measure user experiences. UI design experience is a plus (but UX should be the primary focus).
- Hands-On Skills: Able to balance hands-on design work with team management responsibilities.
- Leadership: Experience managing team performance, conducting reviews, and fostering professional growth. Familiarity with assigning and monitoring design work across multiple projects.
- Tools: Proficient in Figma and other relevant UX/UI design and prototyping tools.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across teams and align UX priorities with broader company objectives.
- Strategic Mindset: Ability to define long-term strategies for UX design and testing.
